What should I do about rolling in...

...poo? One of my pups came inside smelling particularily stinky today, and I discovered several areas which were caked with the stuff. Needless to say, he had a bath. We figured it was because he was outside for a while, and got bored.

Well, we were wrong. I let them out to pee before locking up the back door, and he came inside smelly. Luckily, it was only in one spot at the base of his neck, so I didn't have to give him another full bath.

This is turning into a habit now. My current course of action is to bring him out on a leash to do his business, and to clean up right away. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything you would do differently? Anything to stop him from rolling in it so he can eventually go out without a leash? I know that cleaning it up will stop him from doing this, but with two dogs, it's easy to miss one when they go out multiple times a day.

YUCK!!!  Dogs will be dogs!  My guys like to roll on dead creatures that the cats bring up!  I'd just have to suggest that you clean up the "mess" everytime you get the chance.  Hard, I know, but better than having to bathe the dog everytime he goes out!!!

Thanks for the reply! Yes, unfortunately this means I'll have to be out there 3-4 times a day "on patrol"... as you said, he can't be bathed every day! [&:]

I kept him on the leash to do his business this morning, then I let him off to play with our other pup--under close supervision. It was too dark to clean up, so I'll be out doing that after our walk.

    Any other suggestions are welcome!
