Stop Jumping on me!

    Stop Jumping on me!

How do I get my pup to stop jumping at me, it's not aggressive or over excited kind of thing, it's more of him putting his muddy feet up onto my chest, just to get my attention, thing is, if he did this with an older person or child, he might knock them over. Plus I'd rather like mud-free PJs haha

I am currently reading "Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson. It's all about using operant conditioning. That is, you get the behavior you reinforce. I strongly recommend this book. I've had dogs my entire life (I am 46), and I am still continuing to learn better ways to handle and understand them.

Yep, it's all about rewarding the behavior you want which will  increase the likelihood that the dog repeats the behavior.  I like to teach a default behavior such as sit.  If the dog even looks like he's going to jump, tell him to sit and give him a treat.  It does require you to always have treats handy because you want to reward often, especially at first.  If he does jump up, turn your back and ignore him.  Don't scold or push him down.  That's giving him attention.  Even negative attention is rewarding to some dogs.

I agree with Jackie, even negative attention is still attention. Try not to give him any attention until he is calm, especially when you have family or friends over they need to ignore him until he settles down. He'll eventually figure it out. Be patient and keep us posted.

I will defo try that, I'll have to find PJs with pockets for the early morning trip outside haha

Celery is safe for dogs to consume. It is one of the better “people” foods for them and is even utilized in certain dog feeds and homemade dog recipes. Celery, unlike some other foods, has a low caloric value, thus the quantity of vitamins and minerals to calorie ratio is rather advantageous.

You have a couple of options. The first one is to get help from a dog behavior specialist who will help you stop this kind of behavior in your dog. Another option is to rethink why your dog is behaving like this and show him another preferable way to behave. Operant conditioning ivypanda.com/.../operant-conditioning-in-dog-training is one of the most successful ways of enforcing behavioral change in dogs. Here's an explanation of how it works. Try it, and I believe you will see the positive changes in your pet's behavior.

Try turning away, ignoring, and redirecting their energy into a sit or lie down command. Consistent training learnaboutcat.com/.../care-training, positive reinforcement, and maybe even using a leash can help. Soon enough, those muddy paws won't be a problem anymore
