Learning to read dog body language

Victoria Stillwell posted this on fb today and I thought it was one of the best articles I've read in a while about dog body language. It covers the entire gambit including the subtle. It's those subtle communications that we often miss and that gets us and our dogs into trouble

I haven't had a chance to read it carefully but it looks good.  Being observant of a dog's body language, and interpreting it correctly(as well as we can) is so much harder than it sounds.  Dog watching is one of my favorite activities.  Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to sit down and read it fully.  I know I miss signals all the time that my dogs relay to each other and to me.  I catch quite a few signals but the ones missed are usually the ones we really need to catch.  lol

Great article! I feel this article is meant to open up a whole new world for humans and their canine companions by helping them to bridge communication with learning their body language and hence helps in establishing meaningful relationships with their dog.

Wow that looks great, thanks for posting the link!

Thing is, 'many' of the people who need to know this stuff are not among my friends lol.  Like the stranger who we meet on a walk, who INSISTS on banging the pups on the head in a hello.  I spend so much time dragging leashes to get the dogs out from under while telling the person to STOP that, then explain the proper way to pet a dog.  Geesh!

Dog body language is an elaborate and sophisticated system of nonverbal communication that fortunately,we can learn to recognize  and interpret.Lip licking, paw lifting this type of signal are very common and is used by almost all dogs.
