I tried to find your origianl post so I'm afraid I dont know the details but a pup needs to be taken out at the appropriate times that he MAY need to go potty like after he wakes up, 10 minutes after he eats and every couple of hours. A lot of people fail by bringing the pup back in the house without the dog relieving itself or giving it praise when it does go. With Rory I was vigiglant about guesstimating when she'd have to go and not coming back in until she went. Needless to say I spent a lot of cold nights in my back yard. Its also imperative to bring them right back inside when they are done so they register that you wenr outside to play and now that they have gootne the job done its ok to go back inside.
Rory did not want to be outside as much as I did and would just stand at the back door looking inside like "I dont wanna be out here lady" but I would tend to my yard (yeah at 2 am half asleep) bounce a ball on the side of the house, all the while humming go potty, go potty, go potty. When she did go I would say "yeah good potty" and praise praise praise. Thankfully she hardly went in the house she'd just hold it forever so I knew she had to go.
Also everytime we would exit the back door I would grab her paw and ring it with the bell I'd hung. It worked wonders for Rory but I know a lot of people are afraid they will eventually become the door man and have a crazy bell ringing dog everytime the wind blew but again thankfully Rory didnt become to big of a pain and now we have gotten rid of the bell all together and she whines instead. It may be that your dog needs a idea of how to tell you he has to go
