alpha male/ aggression with same sex

I two australian cattle dogs. A 3 y/o male and a 8 m/o female that he "raised". Both altered at 4mo. The male loved every female he has met, and shown aggression and/or dominance to every male. The female has turned out to be my husbands dog. I really dont get attatched to females and absolutely adore all my male pets of all species. SO, i want a male australian shepherd puppy. My questions are: Will my male "raise" the aussie male indiscriminantly since he is a pup? (Working dominance issues out while aussies young) Will the alpha issue come back up when the aussie is full grown? also, Is 3 a crowd- Will one get left out or picked on? I just dont want to be seeing my baby boys fight and hauling dogs in for stitches on regular basis.

My biggest advice is to find a behaviorist to work with you and your male. When you do get another puppy, the first male will (usually) like the puppy until they reach sexual maturity. Then the puppy with be trying to find his place in the pack. A good behaviorist can help you before, during and after getting the puppy.

As for the number, it's really how many you can handle and still give everyone fair time. I personally own 3 dogs, and that's a good number for me. I don't allow them to gang up on one another unless it's all in fun and everyone is on board with the games. At the end of the day my dogs know that I am Pack Leader. I don't say Alpha cuz honestly, we're not dogs and we will never be Alpha Dog.
