    Behavior or health??? (kpwlee)

Our neighbor has a female pit mix foster pup - about 6-7 mos old. Spayed.

When she plays with Bugsy after a while his 'red rocket' comes out. His red rocket NEVER comes out, OK very, very rarely and when it does may be just an inch or 2. But with her it comes out may be 5-6 inches.

Since this is soooooooooo odd for him I was discussing it with the foster mom (her 8 yr old was there to witness it) and she mentioned that the intact male GSD in our neighborhood had tried to mount her several times and the 5 mo old golden pup has the red rocket out with her.

So...........should they be having her checked to make sure the spay was done correctly or does she just have the animal magnetism thing down too well LOL

BTW this is a serious question as I am totally not kidding when I say that Bugsy never has this happen. The only times I can recall seeing even a bit of the red rocket is when we are doing training with birds or wings

Did Bugsy give any other indication that he found her sexually interesting?  I have a friend who had her cat spayed and several months later the cat showed all indication of being in season.  The only way to tell, from what her vet told her, was to look and see and when the cat was operated on, the vet found some tissue, I'm presuming from the ovaries, that had been missed and was apparently producing enough hormone to cause the cat to show signs of being in season. He removed the tissue and the cat never showed any further symptoms of being in heat. Not sure if there's any other way to tell if this dog might have a similar situation.  I find it interesting indeed if it's just a case of this particular dog causing this reaction from Bugs for no physical reason.  The other dogs who mounted her aren't necessarily relevant since lots of male dogs mount other dogs and it's not sexual in nature and some dogs seem to display their red rockets (not giggling, not too much) more than others. Since Bugsy has been known to unsheath when excited, maybe she just brings out the excitement with her personality or play style. I hope others share any info as it's not something I've had much experience with or read about much.

He didn't show any other interest - that I can tell. He was neutered so young I always say he doesn't really know he's a male lol. It has happened 3 times now and my post is just born out of curiousity. He has MANY Female friends who he plays vigorously with but has never had this happen. It just seems really odd.

I did not witness the GSD or golden incident so can't say what was happening there. Dottie is not submissive with dogs (she is with humans) and has a rough play style.

Sorry for typos using my iPad and it seems to 'help' me more than I would like it to

Puppy vaginitis or a UTI can make them smell really "good" to a boy dog. Overstimulation could also cause Bugs to do that.

How long age was she spayed? Maybe shes still giving off the "scent".

Health and fitness always depends upon nutrition and exercise so if you are providing good nurishment to your dog then there is no need to be afraid, but with that your dog must do his daily exercise otherwise he will be lazy which will give rise to various diseases.

Just like a wagging tail does not always means "friendly dog", a "red rocket" does not always mean "sexual arousal". Overestimation is the correct word. Some times Chuck displays this when knows yummy food its coming his way (he is also neutered). That does not mean Chuck wants to mate with the chicken taco i'm about to eat Stick out tongue

This is a total normal behavior which is not caused by a "bad neutering job". Your dog most likely LOVES making friends and play, when he gets overstimulated by playing then that its what happened. Probably the pit is playing exactly at the level and way he likes to play.

As long as Bugsy is not trying to mount her then is over-stimulation only, if he tries to mount her then you might want to teach him about "the flowers and the bees" Cool
