My Chihuahua seems to becoming less sociable...HELP

I have a 2 1/2 yr old male chihuahua that I have had since he was a puppy. In his younger days he was around people alot and very sociable, curious etc. I always have taken him out on his leash for his walks and bathroom breaks. We've moved 2 times since we first got him (due to hubbys job). As he approached closer to the yr mark I started noticing that he was nervous around other dogs...with his tail going between his legs an his little ears pushed back..sometimes even rolling onto his back especially if a bigger dog came around. Now I am noticing that hes starting to be different with people...he absolutely hates the mailman or anyone that tries to deliver anything to the house. I have to tell him NO and push him back from the door to even get it opened, and even then he tries to grab the bottom of my pants leg or bite at my foot.  Also I have noticed that when I take him out for his walks, if we come around a person hes very standoffish...then if they ignore him and walk away he wants to follow after them barking and trying to jump at them! I feel so bad cause I dont want people thinking I have a mean lil dog, but I am so confused as to why hes like this.   ANY HELP is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Patricia McConnell has a great little booklet called 'The Cautious Canine".  It's less than $10 and it will outline how you can help your dog overcome his fears.  I highly recommend it.

You're welcome and also welcome to the forum. :)   Don't get discouraged when you're working on his insecurities and fears.  Lots of times it's easy to get discouraged when you're working on a problem like this because progress might be slow in the beginning.  But if you're patient and consistent with the training in that booklet, you will see results which will help motivate you and your dog.
