I would caution using aversive not really because the dog will associate the aversive with the other dog (this is debatable), but because for some dogs, the corrections only frustrate the dog further and push the dog into a higher state of arousal and reactivity. I would *not* correct the dog unless you are able to give a correction that immediately interrupts and shuts down the unwanted behavior. Depending on the temperament and size of the dog, sometimes this is more than what people are comfortable doing, so they end up just "nagging" the dog and getting him more excited.
