Oh, the pee

    Oh, the pee

Goose still has a pee issue. As you may recall, she had months of urinary issues (UTI coupled with puppy vaginitis). So, we expected that accidents could happen. Still tried to prevent them, obviously, but it wasn't a major concern and we figured it would clear up after her UTIs did.  She's had several clear urine checks, so that issue is good. Even her vagnitis seems to be gone..or mostly so.  Yet, still we get lakes of pee.

It's baffling, really, as I go out with her and see her pee what seems to be a normal amount, and she'll usually pee more than once outside. Yet 15 or so minutes later, she'll pee in the kitchen..a huge, huge amount. I'm pretty certain Newt could drown in these puddles.

She has never, ever pooped in the house and if she has to go she'll scratch at the door. Yet she doesn't carry it over to peeing.

She can hold it..as she wouldn't fathom going in her crate. I don't limit water, as I'd have a ton of really crabby dogs and cats.

I've tried tethering her to me, but unless I stare at her intently at all times, she's like a ninja at chewing through leashesConfused One second I have a  puppy leashed next to me, the next..and with no leash movement whatsoever, I'm just holding half a leash.

This pee issue aside, she's a most fabulous puppy.Smile

I guess it is at least fortunate that she's chosen the tile as her pee spotHmm (and yes, we do clean the spot thoroughly)

How frustrating. Have you managed to figure out her signals for when she has to pee? I am thinking she has too much freedom. I never allow more than 10-15 mins loose at a time. They are crated otherwise. If she goes right when you bring her in, crate her then...then take her out again and attach a word to it "tinkle" or whatever...

Really without regulating what is going in I have a hard time seeing how you can avoid this. I never allow free access to water for a young pup. I don't let them perish from parchitude but I definitely know when they drink, and how much, and act accordingly.

Alternatively you could try a dog door, I guess.

She may have too much freedom. I've previously just had boy pups and haven't had any issue with peeing at this age, but all pups are different, I suppose. That's why we tried the tether (she's crated while we're at work and, although she does get almost an hour of run around time on my lunch break, I hate to crate her too much in the evenings if I can avoid it), which resulted in the leash chewing incidents. (this from a puppy who barely chews things) She generally stays in the same room as we're in and it's an open floor plan..so aside from the water bowl being in the kitchen around the corner from my desk, there aren't many places she can go where I can't see her. She just doesn't seem to take in enough water to have so much pee, good lord!Stick out tongue Yet, all of her urine checks don't show her urine being excessively dilute, so apparently all is in working order.

Generally, she drinks when we get home, goes out and pees a few times, comes in, and then we let her out about 20 minutes later..sooner if she's being a wild thing  with Grimm. She always pees aplenty when outside, but apparently she has a reserve tank in there.

I haven't seen any pee signals..she likes going out, so she'll go to the door if we're anywhere in the vicinity..but she doesn't sniff around or act shifty before peeing. This being the complete opposite of her needing to poop, in which case she books it to the door. She's never pooped inside....I think her soul would crumble.

I think I'll look for a leash of sturdier material, which should thwart her chewing through it.That way she can be kept next to me, but doesn't have to be crated.

We have indoor cats who would escape with a dog door, sneaky little beasts.

This issue aside, she's a fabulous puppy, lol. Today was the first pee free day in quite some time (not counting Ginger's current issue), so that was a nice surprise :)

Since she had a UTI for so long, could this just be sort of a carry over? She was used to going VERY often then and now doesn't realize she can wait or isn't emptying her bladder properly.

Try a chain leash. I got one at the $ store as a car leash.

I don't know, just coming from the way the breed is about cleanliness alone, it makes me think something is still up with her but you just haven't found it yet.

She still has a bit of vaginitis, so perhaps there's some irritation there. We are, however, on day two of no pee lakes..so that's somewhat promising.

We joked that perhaps Ginger's current pee issue has led her to understand how icky it is, lol

I have a 6mo. pup she'll go #2 outside but she keeps peeing inside.  It's driving me nuts!! I crate her and she won't go in her crate unless I guess she really has to go but that rarely happens.  I'll even take her out sometimes and we'll come inside and 5mins later she's peeing inside on the carpet!  I'm thinking about trying to train her to use a bell maybe I'm missing her signals to take her out.
