• My dog runs out the door!! whenever he gets.. prp134 Posted : 4/9/2006 2:37:38 PM Hello all,   So I have a dilema I dont know how to fix. My dog has now gotten in the habit of running out the door, when ever noone is watching him or when the door is left open. This poses a serious threat for him and for me. For him because, he might get run over or stolen and for me because I couldnt bear to lose him. I love my dog and I couldnt bare to cause him pain but I am seriously thinking of buying an electronic fence so he wont try to do it. The thing that bothers me is that will this fence then teach him to be afraid to go out even with me, when I need to take him out for his business.   Im at a lost as how to solve this issue? anyone have any ideas, suggestions? Gorbie and I would greatly appreciate them. • spiritdogs Posted : 4/9/2006 4:10:33 PM The more he gets rewarded for doing this (and just getting out is his reward), the more he will do it, and he is in dire danger.  If you get electric fencing, and he is trained properly to it, it should not make him fear going out with you.  But, IMO, you should still train him to wait at the door until he is released to go outside. Another choice would be to ut up some deer fencing, so that if he does escape, he is contained.
