cocker widdles all over when he meets people.....

OK.  I just got a cocker spaniel this week.  He turns a year old this month and he's a real cutie!!!   However, he widdles all over the place when he meets people.   He's even peed ON people who are greeting him.  Is there ANYTHING I can or should be doing?  What should I do when we have company?   He's really a happy, friendly little guy....I hate to see him have to be crated when people come.  Any ideas out there?

hello fellow cocker lover. submissive peeing is kind of a part of our breed. my parents are on their 3rd and hubby and i have had our first for almost a year. kenny was little submissive when we got him but that has gone away once he realized he was home. it just has to do with nervousness. kenny was very submissive around my sister's boyfriend initially, but it did go away. once your doggie gets a little more used to the surroundings, it should get better. if you ever decide to get your puppy in training classes, the trainer could also help you if you are still having problems.

I have no experience with cockers but the ACD I am fostering was a very submissive urinator when she came to us.  We have taken her to the soccer fields and other public parks and just asked people to treat & greet her.  She has gotten 97% better.  She stills does it a little when scared (really loud angry voices) but she's in work in progress and doing better all the time!

Getting your dog to learn some commands or being given a job to do really boosts a submissive dogs confidence.
