Dry foods that have NO brewer's yeast, flaxseed or barley.  I believe I have figured out what the girls are sensitive to and wouldn't mind switching off 100% cooked and try the kibble plus toppers again. Maybe.  I'm scared LOL

Tried putting them on the sojos I've had in the freezer (grain based) and they have been itching and foot chewing again.  It has barley in it.  Any of the other foods they itch on also have barley.  I am 99% certian on the brewer's yeast and flaxseed.

I've been lookng around and so far PetGuard still fits the bill, as does California Natural Lamb/Rice formula.  It is surprising how many foods sneak these ingredients in them!

ETA:  I should mention they have been doing quite well previously on Freshpet Select. And I wonder if I should just keep up with that. It's refrigerated (cooked) food. THey love it, easy to serve, look the best they ever have.  Maybe I just answered my question here LOL.  But might be nice to know of the kibble options for them.
And of course old Gobie does fine on anything...

I'm not sure if you'd be interested, but The Honest Kitchen's Preference doesn't have any of those things.  All that you would have to do is add meat.

I keep eyeing preference. I had ordered at one time the big 10lb tub of it and thought that was going to be my answer.  I got it, mixed with meat and they would not eat it.  :(  I tried for 3 days before I gave up.   It is a really nice looking product though!

Oh, that sucks.  I hope that you find something that will work for your girls.

SoJos does have a grain-free I like.  Just add meat.

Those are the exact same ingredients my bichon is allergic to! Maybe its a breed thing? lol I use TOTW for Jetta for breakfast and for dinner she gets whatever we are eating (as long as its healthy and dog-friendly, of course!) This works GREAT for her--she has stopped itching completely and no paw licking or bad tear stains. She also has a ton more energy. I think the combinination of not suffering from allergies and eating more fresh foods have really helped her.

I really wonder if it is a breed thing. Bichons seem to be a very allergic breed overall.  If I avoid those 3 things then my guys do not itchy, get yeasty, etc.  If I give them something with those ingredients- itchitchitch.

I am really glad I've kept a journal for each dog over the years. I sat down and looked at all the foods they've had issues with and those are the ingredients in common.

It looks like either Cal Nat Lamb/Rice adult or PetGuard Lifespan would be my choices.  I went out and got another 6lb roll of Freshpet Select chicken since they are doing so well on that.

I also give them som eof our dinner sometimes, if I have made extra and they love it. :)

You know Cal Nat didn't work for Jetta either, and I wonder if she has a mild Sunflower oil allergy as well....but I haven't tried that food in a long time to test that theory. I hope you can find something that works for your girls!

Close... they snuck flaxseed in there.

It's hard to find a food w/out it anymore, it's pretty trendy.

    • Gold Top Dog

Ick! It's so hard to find something that works. Good luck!

How about Solid Gold Barking at the Moon?

I think the Petcurean formula GO! Natural Salmon and Oatmeal should fit the bill.

Pretty sure all of the TOTW products should work, as well

Ahhh, you're right! How about Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken Meal Formula? The rabbit and duck + turkey have brewer's yeast.

I'd put them back on what you already know works for them and stop switching--switching around isn't for all dogs.
