I don't want to look back and say yes, she lived to 15 but she was sick for most of it.  I'd rather she live to 12 and have enjoyed every second.

Lori, I can totally relate to this, & I agree 100%.

That is exactly the criteria that I would use in deciding to feed a dog that kind of diet.  No one wants their dog to feel ill and if that's the only food that gives the dog a good quality of life, I'd close my eyes and feed it.

And you know, I was reading that if you're allergic to dust mites and cockroaches, you probably shouldn't eat shrimp.

I didn't know that, and Jessie's very allergic to dust mites. I took her off her joint supplement when she was diagnosed with pancreatitis ( I stopped all supplements) and she started going up and down our stairs faster than she used to. Last year I found that the food she did best on only had rice and fish as ingredients and was 21/13. I added toppers too and Jessie did awesome. You have to listen to your dog, and that's very hard to do when you're a member of a forum like this. At least they don't use ethoxyquin in the z/d anymore. I'm so glad Emma's doing so well.

Today, Emma hopped up on my grooming table, and KISSED the Schnoodle I was grooming. EMMA!

I think I'm going to smack myself, and quit trying to change stuff. Also, I introduced fish, today (salmon), and she seems fine, with that. The test is accurate, so far.

Jessie shows her food allergies by having itchy ears and chewing her feet. It took a few days to a week for her to show a reaction on the elimination diet. It sounds like Emma reacts sooner? It may depend on the amount you give her too; for example, I gave Jessie 2 ounces of the meat I was testing every day for two weeks or until she showed a reaction. I'm glad the test has been accurate. Give Emma some ear scritches for me.

but if you have one of those dogs, you'll understand,

I DO understand. From the time Kobi was 2 yrs I could count on one hand the number of 'good' bowl movements this dog had. Chronic soft stools. Not nice with fluffy butt dogs! I kept switching food up the 'quality' scale and even had him on a Raw diet at one point. When he got sick in March the vet handed me a bag of Hill's R/D. My first reaction was - "that's crap food from Science Diet." Well we have never looked back. It was a miracle. Regular and perfectly formed everyday. Who knew?
