Great Dane Lady/Eagle Pack

    Great Dane Lady/Eagle Pack

I looked thru the nutrition threads a bit and didnt see this...so if I missed it, I'm sorry...but did anyone see that the GDL is no longer using/suggesting EP?   I was shocked when I saw this.   Afterall.....she is my "Great Dane Bible!"  However..... I just don't know...I really just don't know.  I always said if I changed from EP I would go with BilJac Frozen. I did have Gibby on it for breakfast for that past several months in fact. However....I REALLY don't like some things in their list of ingredients.....so I stopped and went back to EP completely. Well...completely except I give him 1 cup of real cooked food with every supper...and egg and cottage cheese and yogurt with every breakfast.

Anyway...reading Lindas website...I just don't know....can't tell if its sour grapes or what.  I do believe that one of the reasons I like EP was the small company and good customer service....and I did talk to John...he is still there promoting his food which he says hasn't changed.  There IS the fact that several small companies were bought out by large and went totally downhill....but then...I dont' know...did they? Or did the small companies convince us of this?            There will be a new food called Golden Eagle out within the year....patterned after the original Eagle Pack. Yes....I will try it no doubt.  But will I change now to what Linda suggsts?  Just because its a small company:??   Nope...don't think so. BilJac is a very small company too.

I don't know Dyan, something must of happened between them.  I know we've talked before about food and you know my take on things.  If the dog is doing well then go with it.  Especially with Gibby's system, I wouldn't shake things up on him.

I thought of you today.  I saw a guy walking a black and white Great Dane at the park.  Willow was AFRAID of him!!! I'm not sure she realized he was another dog?? She could of fit right underneath him.  Smile

    Big Smile

I think what it looks that happened between E and GDL is that the new company isnt' doing things the way the old did.....and to read what she says..they got rid of a lot of people.   Does it change the food?  Who knows.  No...I will not change for now.

By the way..the same company bought out Wellness also.

    • Gold Top Dog

I can't help but wonder if Wellness decided to take the Great Dane Lady off the payroll, & she, in turn, took her endorsement elsewhere...

What company does she endorse now?

    • Gold Top Dog

It looks like she promotes Precise pet food now. The ingredients are really similar to Eagle Pack. Here are the ingredients for one of their holistic foods:

Chicken Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Chicken, Ground Whole Barley, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbyl Palmitate), Beet Pulp, Ground Oats, Flaxseed, Dried Egg Product, Fish Meal, Chicken Cartilage (source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate), Alfalfa, Natural Chicken Flavor, Dried Carrots, Lecithin, Dried Kelp, Fish Oil, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Dried Cranberries, Chamomile, Dandelion, Peppermint, Rosemary, Turmeric Meal, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Streptococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus oryzae Fermentation Extract, Dried Aspergillus niger Fermentation Extract, Vitamin A Suppliment, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Riboflavin Supplement, DL-Methionine, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Choline Chloride, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Folic Acid, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate (B1), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (B6), Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate.

And I just noticed that it has menadione bisulfite. What's up with that, Great Dane lady?

Yes...that is what she is promoting now.  BUT,,,if you read on in her website she says...( and I am copying directly from her website )

When One Door Closes, Another One Opens...

On May 7, 2009 at a Zoomark International Trade Show in Bologna, Italy - a new dog food is being introduced for overseas distribution. This food is dedicated to the legacy of Joe Cocquyt - the founder of Eagle Pet Foods. This food is called GOLDEN EAGLE holistic line of pet foods. It is made exactly to Joe Cocquyt's stringent specifications given to a friend before his death. Joe's recipes and secrets, the highest quality ingredients and the best manufacturing practices brings this visionary line up of holistic foods to the international markets. Within a year it will be availble in the USA. It is unlike any other commercial dog food line up in quality and in design and I am anxious to see it released in the USA and Canada.

What an amazing legacy to have this food developed per his guidence and instructions in life, then upon his passing it manufactured and dedicated to his life's passion - Eagle Pack Pet Foods. So EAGLE as we knew it previously, "IS" still alive, and it will be released in the USA by April of 2010.

GOLDEN EAGLE includes a line up of 9 foods parallel to Eagle Original, Natural Pack, Holistic Chicken/Rice and the Large/Giant Breed Puppy and Large Breed Adult, Holistic Senior and a Power formula. There is also 3 unique protein foods; Duck, Salmon and Lamb diet and a feline line up as well.

The feed trials for the USA begin in June, 2009. In the meantime, since I am no longer feeding Eagle after 22 years. I have carefully gone over all the foods available in the US and decided to fall back on my "backup" to the old Eagle foods. I am now using and endorsing PRECISE and PRECISE PLUS HOLISTIC pet foods - it is an honest line up of foods with a solid history and it works!

Precise is a family owned company and they have their own manufacturing plants with a 100% safety record. With a new CEO on board, a dynamite sales staff , which includes several former top sales reps from Eagle (who also walked due to philosophical differences), PRECISE and PRECISE PLUS line of foods will move to the next level in nutritional support for our pets.

The holistic market can handle two quality holistic foods the Precise line and the new Golden Eagle available soon, because. there are less and less foods out there I will recommend to my puppy buyers because of my criteria for better foods.

I said to the VP of Marketing at WellPet, as I refused to sign their contract,
"No, it's not always about the bottom line. It's about doing the right thing for our pets, and the money will follow".

Golden Eagle is the right thing - and it will be an enormous success in this country based on the dedicated Eagle followers when the company was under the direction of the Cocquyt family. Because of this life altering experience, on April 8th, I decided I would not use or endorse any foods (kibble, raw or otherwise) that are owned by large investment companies or conglomerates. I would only deal with independently owned or family owned companies, from now on, I will only deal with A Company with a Conscience. Watch for this award on websites, it will indicate who is dedicated to making a better product with the best interest of our pets at heart.

    The Great Dane Lady

Plus I noticed her list really changed.....she has almost all very small family owned companies listed.

Plus... last night when I was searching about the Golden Eagle food... I noticed that " A Company with a Cosecience" that she quoted above.....is like her logo....almost like a seal now. I can't help but to wonder if she does have a part in this new company. I know she did not in Eagle the way many accused her of and  lying about it.....but this one makes me think she could.  THAT company interests me but for now I'm not switching from Eagle for Precise.

I did speak to John from Eagle.....he is still there promising the same quality that he always did..... at least that was a couple of weeks ago.

I use Precise, and have been thrilled with it. I just use the Foundation, and add stuff. Of course, for our sensitive pups.... I hate to change anything. If it keeps working, keep doing it! I used the frozen Biljac, for Ena, for a while, too. It worked great to put some much needed muscle and weight on her.

I raised a Dane/Shepherd with a touchy stomach on it....she was healthy and happy and looked good.  But that was before the days of premium/super premium dog food..........actually right now I am so confused about dog food for Gibby..... it makes my head spin.  And to add to it all...as I am making more and more home cooked food to add to his kibble...thinking that one day I might just go all the way with it..... talking to GDL by email...she said there is NO WAY home cooking would be better for our Danes than a good dog food.

I have to look into the Precise....as to where to get it.  Unless there is a darn good reason, I'm not getting any food shipped to me as I believe there has to be tons just as good in a store that I can get to. For now though...I have 4 forumulas of EP going with one of them being the last of the EP puppy food.

    • Gold Top Dog

Interesting to say the least. If your dog does fine on it I can't see a problem to switch just because she did. Although Precise is ok and I've never had any problems using it. (less muscle tone on a few though)

I agree totally.  Just thinking...... in the past... some of these small companies bought out by the big companies, went downhill fast. I guess I'm afraid that Eagle will be the same.

    • Gold Top Dog

You might have a point. Maybe she does have a vested economic interest in Golden Eagle when she didn't have one with Eagle Pack.

I still fall back on my own advice of feeding what works, whether it's "popular" or not.

Yeah....................even though everyone thought she had an interest in Eagle Pack....lol!

Yep Ron..... whatever works is the best!  No doubt about that at all~

It truly all boils down to what the *dog* does good on...it is not always up to the owner.

It IS up to the owner to find first a company they believe in and trust to use good quality ingredients, and then go from there.

I've so wanted for Rivers to do great on Orijen, cause I REALLY like that company and trust their quality is excellent, above and beyond; however, he appears to be doing SOOOO very much better on Cal Natural lamb/rice puppy version from Naturapet; which is another company I truly believe in as well.

One needs to find at least 2 different companies they can completely trust, and go from there.

I'm sure there are probably other foods Rivers would do good on; but I personally only have faith in Champion and Naturapet products; even some canned varieties of Wellness core.

Eagle pack formulas do look of good quality; I just never saw the need for beet pulp and a few other ingredients, and some of the grains are fractured rather then whole.

I have been on the Nzymes web site and posted on their site is "As of May 15th 2009 Nzymes is no longer recommending or endorsing products from E/P, Wellness and Nature's Variety since these three companies have recently been subject to changes in corporate ownership and business restructuring.

When I seen this I had to check the food forum to see if anyone eles had heard about this.

I bought Nzymes Bac-Pak Plus for Myrt.I'm so tired of poking those Atopica caps down Myrt. She will eat just small amounts of the Royal Canin Calorie Control HIgh Fiber food.I can put two cups in her bowl and most of it is still there in the evening.  I buy Nature's Variety Instinct can food to mix with the R/C food.

The company that now owns Eagle Pack also owns Wellness....and I Old Mother Hubbard also.

The Great Dane Lady always endorsed Nzymes so thats probably how that ties in to not endorsing EP.
