What do you add to your dog's food?

crumbled Dr Harvey's Power Patties (a favorite!)

A big favorite, here, as well.  Such a a great way to serve tripe---not quite as stinky---love 'em.

Tootsie will happily eat plain kibble, she doesn't really care that the toppers are there, though she loves them.

All of my gang but the livestock guardians eat home cooked now so the "blah" factor is kind of a non-issue.  However, I make treats and snacks and toppers, and once a week everyone except Ben gets a light supper instead of bones.  On those nights they all get stew or a treat.  I post these recipes regularly in the recipes section.  Most of these are crock pot recipes, a combination of a little meat, starchy veggies, fruit, and beneficial herbs.  However, I'll be posting a cookie recipe tonight.

may i ask what's wrong with tuna? is it not ok?

    • Gold Top Dog

I have been adding Honest Kitchen's Embark or Thrive to my dog's food in place of a few scoops of canned I usually do.  Anything fresh I add usually depends on what I am cooking/eating for dinner that night, so it varies between fish (salmon, tuna, mahi-mahi) which I only buy if it says "fresh," not previously frozen, beef, or lamb occasionally.  If I do add some of the above to their food, I will skip out on giving them the Honest Kitchen topper or canned to eliminate any over-feeding.

My information on increasing n-3s in the diet says that tuna is fatty.  I don't give it to the dogs myself often because we eat it ourselves!  Yum!

OK, well, I have a happy dog here because I let him have the nice crispy skin from the piece of roasted salmon I had for dinner.  I shredded it into little pieces and mixed it with his kibble.  Not sure about any nutritional value on that, but sometimes IMHO it's OK just to eat something because it tastes nice.

Is your current food not doing the job?

I don't add anything to my dogs food. I feed a rotation of Evo, TOTW and a few others and they are happy and healthy. For recreation, I give them a RMB once in a while and sometimes a raw egg. But that's just for their fun....
