Innova...how many dogs can not tolerate

Also, if your dog's stool is greasy in appearance, you may want to double check for parasites, especially roundworm.

Thought about that...but his stools checked out fine by the vet.

He also takes Interceptor every month which eliminates/prevents heartworm, roundworm, whipworm and hookworms, he's been taking them monthy since he was 4mnths old.

I know some dogs just cant tolerate Innova, but I love it. My little tzus have been eating Innova for years and do great, nice soft coat, no dry skin. My Shepherd didn't do well on it because turns out she is allergic to Chicken, she eats California Natural L/R...soft coat and no dry skin.

Charlie has always been on Innova (first puppy and then adult) after we switched him at about 3 months (he's 2 now).  Poops are usually good and firm and coat looks good.  I love it!  Charlie loves it, but he's a hound and would eat anything Yes

Zoe did very well on Innova.  Great coat and energy level, and no poop issues.  She is just finishing up a bag of Orijen now and I'm thinking of rotating back to Innova next.

Dakota couldn't tolerate Innova (regular, not evo). This was back before her stomach issues.

My aussies do GREAT on it though. I'm really really happy with this food. They are both on Evo. Lily is on the reduced fat version though because she gains weight easily. Both have very small poops and awesome coats. I get complements all the time on how soft and silky they are.

I am so happy with the EVO. My dogs look great on it. (Well the ones on EVO)

Although they went nuts over the taste, neither one of my dogs tolerated it and one got a nasty red butt and anal gland problems from it.  The other one had greenish loose poop that would get disgustingly looser over a days time and never adjusted after a month of feeding it.  Never again.

Innova Evo is the holy grail in this house, lol. Great coats, digestion is good, and both dogs love it which is a miracle with my picky two.

No mattter what you feed I believe the dog has some medical issue from what you mention. Sounds like Giardia (bever fever.) It can be very hard to get rid of.

And If the food is the problem I would not go with Canidae AlS.......I might try a simple food like Cal Nat Lamb and Rice first.Works wonders on coat issues.

Some dogs respond well to Prozyme and to Omega 3 supplementation.

Something that I would consider trying is zinpro biscuits.  Adding this form of zinc can improve coat and skin quality quite well with no side effects like other forms of zinc would.  Research the product a bit.  We had to supplement our last dog with zinc and this product was wonderful for totally regrowing his lost fur.  Not to mention the thick, gleaming fur it produced.  I am actually going to order some for dublin even though he has an amazing shiny coat now.  If your going to use treats why not use something that is good for them and it even says it is good for their paw pads which mine runs so much that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I'm still wondering about lactose intolerance.  Does the stool quality change over time, and does your dog seem to need to go several times through the day instead of having two regular movements?  Lactose intolerance can cause spastic colon, and that can cause the greasy, soft-serve stool - and it can also prevent your dog from voiding his bowels completely when he needs to, leaving "some for later."  Later movements become somewhat better processed, though they will still be mucousy from the irritated bowel.

    Just a quick thought.

I swear by Innova products.  Luke has been on EVO for the last two + years and his coat is glorious and gets complimented daily.  I had a horrible time keeping weight on him with other foods -- he's done very well on EVO.  I switched him to the Red Meat formula a while back because he started to get a little itchy on the chicken.

Kaiser is on Innova puppy and I intend to switch him to the RM EVO around a year or so.  He always wants Luke's food, so I figure I may as well feed them the same thing if I can get away with it.  I always give him a piece of Luke's food when I'm feeding and he runs gleefully to the living room with it.  lol

The only Innnova I've tried is the EVO red meat.  It gave Kenya horrible diarrhea, but so has every other very high protein, grain-free food I've tried.  Her stool was not greasy, it was like water in general.  I wanted to switch b/c I thought it was a better food, but after several days of her stumbling around the yard in a squatting position, quite exhausted and obviously hurting with an upset stomach, I switched back to the other foods she was doing fine on.  She does best on Canidae (any) or Natures Variety Prairie (any).

I add Evo original or Evo red meat to Canidae or Eagle Pack Holistics to boost protein level, especially during agility and field trial season. I rotate food.  I think that they have more energy with the addition of Evo (and maybe muscle regeneration), but I really hesitate feeding Evo exclusively.

I really wanted to switch to Canidae because it is a lot easier to get around here.  I have to drive forever for Eagle Pack or order it online.  Canidae  looks better on paper than Eagle Pack but I swear that their coats are in better condition and their poop is better with Eagle Pack, even withthe addition of Evo, so I might just set myself on a delivery schedule to save a little $$ and buy it online.

I always forget about Eagle Pack but it's great stuff.  I've even had good luck with the not-holistic variety.  I swear their ingredients don't look that great but they must put synergistic pixie dust in there or something.  Premium Puppy is the food the Cord does second best on (Bil-Jac dry is the best for him).
