Kibble Shape - Wellness Core Reduced Fat

I'm such a smarty pants, I said these were tetrahedrons, not pyramids - actually they are neither.  They are extended triangles, with two opposing triangular surfaces bounded by three quadrangular surfaces.  So, I was able to set them up on a side and start at the point and easily divide them lengthwise.

rofl! I have one word for you - GEEK :) And I mean that with all due respect lol

So actually, my husband has informed me that I'm still wrong and the correct topological term is extruded triangle.  So I've been out-geeked.  Hee.

yup, triangles. Cut very nicely in half. Didn't crumble as expected.

I wonder if Wellness believes there's some benefit to the pyramid shape or if they do it to give them a definite identity (ie: you look in a dogs food bowl and KNOW if its Wellness or not without having to ask).

I wondered about that too ... Does any other company use this *ahem* extruded triangle shape?? Core is the only one I've ever seen like that.

I would normally have thought it was just a brand identity thing ... but my boy thinks otherwise. He really really digs that shape. He works it round his back molars with evident enjoyment and can get a really good 'grip' on the kibble piece. At first I was concerned that for a toy poodle mouth the kibble size and shape would be inappropriate - and both dogs struggled at first. But once he got a handle on the kibble shape, he crunches it up really well.

Maybe Wellness figure that the large pointy shape means most dogs can't just gulp and swallow the kibble, but are encouraged to crunch it up?

large? those extruded triangle kibbles are tiny compared to many kibbles. My dogs swallow them.

    Really? Blimey.

So, which kibbles are actually larger than the Core pieces? I'd quite like to know because friends with large-breed dogs often moan about how small many kibbles are, and it would be nice to be able to point to a really large size kibble that even bigger dogs would need to chew.

I know EVO comes in a Large Bites version but I haven't seen those.

Wow you guys are great !    I can't believe you actually counted up kibble amounts for me.    85 is a GOOD number - I like that.    I think we'll be just fine going with the Core RF.     I'll keep some freeze dried fruit bits mixed in with some freeze dried liver pieces in a baggie if I need extra treats.    Keeping the two together seems to spread the liver smell enough that Prancer treats them all like liver (especially since I cut up the freeze dried liver pieces to the same size as the fruit bits).

Thanks again - you guys are great !

Evo large bites is what I would consider normal kibble size. It's about the size of a dime. (flat like a dime too)

OMG you guys are cracking me up !    I had missed the post that said you actually could break them in half .... how I missed that is beyond me, but I did.    Then the whole geometry discussion was quoted and I'm sent back to my middle school days.    I've always done super well in math - except geometry.    Too much Pi not enough piE (I like it much better with an E on the end --- as in cherry pie, blueberry pie, apple pie ROFL).

I'm looking forward to the switch to the extruded triangles (probably the only geometry shape I'm going to remember from now on ! LOL)

My favorite is cherry pi - I mean, piE.  Big Smile
