rwbeagles-got a dog over 70lbs? I'd like to hear from ya

I don't feed kibble, but I wanna play, too! :o)

Logan - 7 months and 60lbs.  He should mature 80-90lbs.  I feed raw, though. He gets 12oz of meat breakfast and dinner and about 4-5 oz of veggie/fruit matter (plus other stuff). I think when he's mature he'll be eating 1 lbs twice a day

Not kibble, but what I put in his bowl morning and night Big Smile

I'd be interested in if you really feed a giant breed THAT much more than a smaller, but more active one.  But that, I know is for another thread.

Life was so much easier when I wasn't educated on food, nutrition, and the food taste.  6 dogs ranging in weight from 60lbs to 185 for a total of slightly over 700lbs.  Six bowls, same food and amount in each bowl.  One cup of kibble, one full can of wet, twice a day.  Leftovers from the little ones was scooped up by the big ones.  It all seem to balance out with the dogs getting full and the amount of exercising keeping their weight level.

Now, the Danes get premium kibble and wet, 1 cup dry, half can wet, some stew meat, twice a day.  The remaining fosters here are on special diets of chicken breast (third for mornng serving, half for evening), a can of veggies, rice, and mineral vitamines.  One foster is 85lbs while the other is 50lbs.  Both have weight issues I am monitoring and trying to reach a balance.

Maggie Is a Great Pyrenees at 105lbs and 15 months old.  She eats one scoop of premium kibble 2 X a day.  One scoop is almost 2 cups. She also gets about 1/2 cup of crockpot homecooked mixed in.

Sam is only 60 lbs and gets 2.5 cups a day.  About 1.25 cups 2 X day.  He has all the energy but not a real big appetite.

Current dog (Gizmo) just a shade over 70 pounds, right now about 2 cups am and pm with a couple of squirts of salmon oil, adjusted if he's had a bunch of extras during the day.

Old dog at 95 pounds about 6 cups a day, no salmon oil. Liam was a bigger dog in every way---height, weight and bone..

Geeeez.... When Emma was on kibble, she ate 4.5 cups a day, and she was underweight! She's an itty dog, though, with a BIG (apparently enormous) appetite.

JJ and Pru are both over 70 pounds (82 & 75) and they get 1 ½ cups of dry kibble, twice a day (so 3 cups total each).  They also get canned or fresh meats mixed in probably equivalent of 2/3 a cup a day per dog and then as for treats and kongs, an additional ¾ a cup of food a day.

JJ I have to watch closely to assure he doesn’t eat too much or isn’t eating any of Pru’s or he will get a little chunky ( I try to keep him with the last 2 ribs showing a bit).  Pru tends to be underweight so I make sure I never skimp with anything for her and currently she could stand to put on a couple more pounds. However, she is far more active than he, and ½ his age.

4.5 cups per day split into two feedings,

Hey anything goes....I appreciate everyone's input...it's been very interesting to look thru!

    Maddi's a malamute and weighs around 72-74lb.

Depending on the Kcal amount of the food, she gets 1-1.5 cups of kibble per day. When she gets the premade raw, she gets the 60lb dog amount.

More importantly, though, I watch her ribs (well, feel). They should be easy to feel, but not boney. I do, however, keep her leaner than most people keep their mals.

ETA: I just realized I posted the amount per MEAL, not day.

little dogs actually seem to eat a lot more than big dogs on a per pound basis. And many of the hard-core working breed dogs seem to have very efficient metabolisms and require remarkably little kcal per day to keep them going.

    Mystic - Akita - just shy of 1 1/2 years old -85lbs

Gets 3.5 cups a day, just lowered her from 4 cups, if after a while I notice that she still needs to lose some she'll come down to 3 cups a day.  She eats 3x a day.

ETA: She's not overweight now (was just checked by the vet) but she's on the heavier side of healthy and b/c of her hips I want to get her to the leaner side.

Both dogs, (Crusher 80ish lbs, and Onyx 45ish lbs)  get about 4 cups of kibble if thats what I'm feeding.  They can also eat an entire chicken and be good for about a day and a half.  Normally when I feed raw, they get about 2 pounds each.  Onyx needs more food/pound of body weight than Crusher because she almost never stops moving.  Crusher is lazy unless he's supposed to be moving.

Pretty simple, when fed dry kibble they get 4 cups for the girls 68-79 pounds, and the chunkier girls get the same even though they complain a great deal. The boys get 4-5 cups except Zion the baby who gets 6-7 cups. I only feed once a day and then treat heavily the rest of the day.

I have used many foods , I like Nutro Ultra , and recently tried Bil-Jac , oddly enough one of the best foods I have fed is a very inexpensive one, Exceed from Sam's Club in Chicken or Lamb with rice. $23.00 for 40+ pounds. It is based on the Old Eukanuba receipe and gave wonderful coat, and tone. The dog's had superior stool , I was frankly amazed. I only switched ot the Bil-Jac because the kids forgot to pick up dog food and it is a 40 mile one way ride to the Sam's club.  The Breeder of the pup owns a pet store ( no live animals sold except fish , reptiles and birds) They stock all kinds of feed and she was told about the dog food by her Euk rep.  Switched much of her kennel over and was equally pleased.  I sometimes put a bit of canned food in it just for fun, the dogs like the Exceed Canned a case is less than 9.00 with 8 dogs I NEED a feed I can afford and feel good about. I supplement with high quality cookies , Iams puppy size to Sportex puppy  tiny cookies but RRs can count and they would rather have 5 small cookies than 1 big one. They also get raw frozen chicken wings and chicken feet ...they think they are in heaven with these gross treats !!

I've been hearing really good things about Exceed lately, to my surprise.

I know I was totally floored !! But as a long time breeder says the truth is in the stool!!
