I got another bad bag of natural balance small bites duck and potato

Okay I just opened a new bag this morning and it was strange in color again.... I contacted the company last time this happened and they said they had it picked up at the store... and anaylized and it was fine. Well I told them my dogs wouldn't touch it.... Today I took pic's...of the two kibbles together and emailed NB .... these kibbles don't even smell the same let alone the awful color of the strange one.....

I want to post the pic's I took so everyone can see and comment.... Can someone tell me how to post a pic here.... since the board has change I don't see were I can download it.....

     thanks

You know...that just plain should not happen. THAT is one of the reason to purchase a "better" food.....to have the same each time.

Do you have a Photo Bucket acct? That is the only way that I know of that you can dowdload a picture since this forum has changed.. And I never remember how to do it without looking for instructions that I have saved....lets see if I can post them here.

You know, there's just always been something about Natural Balance that's never sat right with me....don't know what it is exactly, as I've never even tried one of their foods, just gut instinct I guess has always steered me away.

Same with Solid Gold though too, only I DID try one of their formulas years ago, in which my big dog at the time began to lose all of her hair.

As for better food Iv tried all the better foods..... This is the only food that agrees with my IBD dog.... And when you have a dog with IBD you can't just be switching around. Iv tired other Duck food..... he does best on NB....

Okay I will try to read the instructions and post the pics.. thanks

How very odd. I'd definitely contact them again. I wonder if it was something with that batch..

I had a similar issue with Avoderm once..only the appearance was the same, but the food had a horrible odor. I ended up just switching food, but obviously with a dog with a health issue, that's not really an option.

My Ginger eats NB Venison and Sweet Potato, as it agrees with her stomach (not all canned foods do, and she can only have canned, due to megaesophagus) She does very well on it, keeps her weight nicely, etc. It also mixes well with water, which is the only way she's able to eat it. It's a food we will stick with, as she does so well on it.

Could you try the canned formula in the meantime while you're waiting on them to resolve the issue?

The problem is only in the small bites.... So Iv got the other size which my dogs don't like so I put it in a baggie and hammer it.... Iv sent the pic's to NB and Im waiting to hear back.... They sent me a bag a couple weeks ago with coupons and an apology until they could get the food back from the store and anaylize it and the food they sent was fine.... I bought another bag after that ordeal and it was fine... then I bought this one and its NOT fine... So will see what the reply is this time... They sent the report to me that the food I took back was fine... Well tell my dogs that... they wouldn't touch it and I can't blame them....

Two bags like that and your dogs' reaction would bother me.  But I know how it is when dealing with a dog with limited options.  I've got one with major issues and a dependence on high fiber in his diet and another with a probable allergy to feathered protein who has been on Hill's z/d for a while.  Have you thought about or considered a home prepared diet?  I'm transitioning to it for both of my dogs and I'm very happy about the ability to avoid just the type of situation you're dealing with now.  I don't want to be at the mercy of the pet food companies' manufacturing process.

For my dog with allergies I'm using a homemade recipe from BalanceIt.com using ingredients that he's had in the past and handles well (beef) and incorporating one new thing to try to see how he manages (sweet potato).  For my fiber-responsive, possibly IBS/IBD dog, I worked with a clinical nutritionist from a veterinary university (VA Tech) and she developed something specifically for him for $100 using mostly ingredients that we've determined he handles well and are trying one he hasn't tried yet (brown rice).  If your dog has issues, sometimes going to the trouble to custom design a diet can make your life easier in the long run.

    Good luck!

that's really odd...I've fed the potato and duck for years and not had an issue. Of course, I've never fed the small bites..so I wonder what's going on. Maybe it's a storage issue with one of the distributors? Really weird...

I wanna show the pic's I just can't figure out how to do the darn thing. I asked Willows Mom to do it but I think she forgot. I went out of state and got a bag of small bites and it was fine..... Okay it was a 40 min drive...but it was out of state...LOL If someone would PM me there email address I would be happy to send the pic's to whomever could post it for me... Hint hint :)

Here is the reply I got back today from NB....

Hi Kim,It looks as if you purchased the same lot/best by date, you had originally purchased. What is the best by date on this bag in question?  I would recommend that when you go back to the store, to purchased from a different best by date.  As I said before there was nothing wrong the May 12/2009 bag you had originally emailed us back on.  I suspect, that the food you had just purchased is a May 12/2009 best by date.  Further, we do not sale directly has you would need to go through you local pet store, or you can order online through the following companies:

I have found the problem to be in the small bites.... Iv never had an issue with the regular food other than my dogs HATE the shape of that kibble.... They love the small bites and Max my Scottie with IBD digests it so much better....

I know someone suggested that I home cook and Im not going to make myself crazy with that... Been there done that. I appreciate the advice but Iv done and have always done the very top of the line for my dogs and ended up with more poop issues and stomach issues to make a sane person insane... Iv done everything from Raw in their little fur lives to home cooking to specialist to holistic vets to  you name it... A person comes to a point in their life when enough is enough... LONG STORY Im keeping this short. But all 4 dogs are doing great now that Im keeping things SIMPLE..... the more I was doing and adding the problems I was dealing with.... Im all for simple. I could go into great detail but I really just wanted to stay on the subject of the color change in this kibble and why the heck that company won't budge on what IM telling them that the stuff clearly doesn't look the same nor smell the same. Iv tried other Duck foods from Fromm to...................all the others and Max had a runny poop... Something about NB Duck and Potato he is fine with....

If someone could help out with the picture posting that would be great.  I did forget and I'm working tonight.

So, they didn't give any explaination in the reply, just that it was all fine.  There MUST be a reason why it looks different.  Too much of this ingredient or not enough of one???  It's varying from batch to batch or something.
