    Large Breed Puppy Foods

I was pleasantly surprised to see the general unanimity on feeding a large breed puppy formula to large breed puppies. Several very knowledgeable and experienced breeders on this board have had success in other ways but unless you know what you are doing go with what the Great Dane Lady recommends. You can also view **Link Removed**
and go to Large & Giant Breed Puppy Formula and the Pet Health page, at the bottom.

[sm=tex.gif]Have you ever seen a kibble tree or dry dog food supermarket in the wild!  Im not trying to be sarcastic.

I feed the EP LBP and have had great success with it so far.  EP is a nice company with excellent customer service.  They are very knowledgeable about nutrition and can answer any questions one might have. Michele, I know you weren't trying to be sarcastic but highjacking a thread about kibble isn't going to get your point across.  You'll attract more flies with honey than vinegar.  Just my two cents. Christi

I'm sorry but isn't this borderline breaking the rules as far as promoting or selling your own products? I just think that considering the OP is employed by Eagle as their nutritionist that starting this thread as an advertisment for your products was kind of tacky. The OP is in a unique position being employed as an expert in the field and I think he could contribute a lot to the discussions here other than just pushing his products.

    Edited to clarify.

Just started my two corgi's on Eagle pack, so far so good....
They love the taste and  ;poops are firm.

So far I havent met anyone that wasnt pleased with using Eagle Pack.

I am using the Natural formula, even with my pup. Our vet said he could have large breed since he was a medium breed prone to hip problems with overgrowth as a pup. I wanted to use the same formula for both my dogs 2yr old corgi and 4 month old corgi.

You can buy Eagle in Texas. We buy it by the truckload. If you call Eagle customer service they can direct to the closest retailer or give you the name of the closest distibutor where you can order it. Or go to a retailer that sells premium kibbles and ask them if they can get it for you. Eagle does have excellent products and terrific customer service. I have persuaded many, many people to switch to Eagle and all but one have been thrilled with the improvement in their dogs. [sm=wink2.gif]

I've removed the link due to the promotion of the product. Not a question regarding a discussion on the product itself.
In a round about way, yes John does profit from the promotion of the food/site but it isn't "his" site such as an e-bayer or our most recent profit spammers tout their pyramind scemes.

    John,
You are a welcome and knowlegable part of this forum and it's good to hear your input but I must ask you to refrain from posting in this manner. Questions regarding what members thinks of such and such type(puppy, holistic, large breed) is fine but statements like an informercial is not

schlep- Sorry I didn't see you specifically said LGB. It was past my bedtime. We use the Natural Formula. (for puppies too)

From the Great Dane Lady website:
The majority of the emails and phone calls I receive these days are from owners with puppies being fed Large/Giant breed formulas. The problem is many of the foods are "designed" in the laboratory and have never had extensive feed trials done using these formulas on large and giant breeds for a long period of time. Only after extensive testing over a long period of time will they know if these foods work for growth. Most companies are far to eager to get these products out on the market to get their share of the customer base, instead of doing what is best for the dogs. To date (2006) the only large/giant breed formula ever tested on giant breeds, for extended periods of time, and in multiple giant litters is Eagle Natural Formula. It has had a successful 15 year track record successful on the giant breeds.

(Note: The new Eagle Large/Giant Puppy formula is designed after the Eagle Natural Formula with additional joint support products. That is the only difference, and at this point the only large/giant puppy formula I can endorse for my puppy buyers for the large/giant breeds.)

Why wouldn't you use the Natural formula since it is available in Texas?
    • Gold Top Dog
We do recommend Natural formula to customers. I was just pointing out that the large and giant breed puppy formula can't be sold here.

I have no puppy, etc, don't even use this brand, but I can't help but wonder why it can't be sold here?  I mean Texas does do some nutty things--like pass the 3 year rabies vax law and then tells each county and each city they can decide for themselves it they want it every year or every three years.  But what is it about the puppy food....if you know (and who knows what is really on politians minds.

I think that answers quite succinctly.
