Trying to pick a "good" dog food, any help?

Edie---My point was that you said "gee dvet, why would you know this if you took nutrition classes, etc etc" as if you were degrading his knowledge....also, vegetables are digestible, it's just the outer layer that is primarily hemicellulose which IS a good source of fiber to promote optimal GI function..so they are beneficial.  If you pulverize the vegetable and allow them to be completely digested, you are eliminated most of the beneficial fiber being offered by it...too much digested material results in constipation (not enough bulk=no stimulation of peristalsis).  You also said "dogs aren't equipted to digest, etc etc"....they ARE...they do digest starches, etc from vegetable material hence why they are classified as omnivores...animal science 101

See jojo, what i told you in that pm about the bandwagon is true, isnt it!

Considering vets are highly academic people who in my opinion are smarter than the avergae bear, you would assume they could spell simple words, unless ofcourse english was not their first language,

Please note the highlighted word above. English YOUR first language?

    Judge much?

Please note the highlighted word above.

Obviously that one word was a typo, which i did notice after posting but couldnt be bothered editing.I do not however profess to be a vet who in my mind are educated people.Honestly i wouldnt pick on the average persons grammar, afterall we all make spelling mistakes every now and then, but rarely do you see many in the one post. And TH i am well aware of how equipped is spelt, notice the word(sic) after equippted?

Anyway my question was directed to dvet which he obviously is not going to reply to,so therefore i am not going to enter into conversations with some of you about something that was not even directed to you.If you all wish to jump on the bandwagon,be my guest, but i'm not joining in [;)]
I do however apologise TO dvet if my question of plain curiosity caused offence, this was never my intention!

I just wanted to point out that dvet has been posting on and off here for awhile and from what I've gathered he's an older, retired vet.  Now, my experience seeing my mom, dad, in-laws, etc, is that it's is probably his typing skills rather than his lack of knowledge or knowing how to spell.
    • Gold Top Dog
I suppose i should explain my asking dvet about his first language.Considering vets are highly academic people who in my opinion are smarter than the avergae bear, you would assume they could spell simple words, unless ofcourse english was not their first language, then it would be totally understandable. But for an english speaking born 'vet' i think it worrying. Wouldnt anyone think the same??

Not me; my husband has a Masters degree in physics and graduated from a large university with the highest GPA in his class but his spelling is horrible. By the way, does anyone remember the topic of this thread?

To everyone who kindly pointed out my terrible spelling blunder, thanks [:)] I appreciate it,and i shall make sure to look in my dictionary more often[sm=blush.gif] .Please dont be shy in correcting me at any other times,i wont get offended, how will i know if no-one brings it to my attention.Obviously, judging by the above replies spelling mistakes bother alot more people than i thought.

    Thanks again.

is that it's is probably his typing skills rather than his lack of knowledge or knowing how to spell.

You make a very good point Willowchow,i admit i didnt take that into account. It's a shame dvet hasnt replied,as all this backlash could have been so easily avoided with a simple yes/no answer. But where's the fun in that, hey guys [:-] [;)]

Anyway i do NOT want to be responsible for taking this thread even further off topic as i know how annoying that is for the OP of the thread [&:]

Edited: OOpps didnt see cyclefiends definition.

The first paragraph in my dictionary says: Spell-(pt-spelt or spelled).

I gotta say, I had one year of nursing school before getting married.  And even with that little  bit of college, my spelling and my typing are awful.  My youngest son graduated college with a degree in Marine Biology and he still makes horrible spelling mistakes.  Thing is, he can spell the scientific name of those sea critters--but goofs up on every day words. Like "Were have you been" instead of "Where have you been." However, his typing is much better than mine.

Edie, I must caution you that you are bordering on a personal attack of dvet and that is a clear violation of the forum rules.

I too am educated. I have a college degree, but that doesn't mean I can SPELL to save my life.  Perhaps he also "couldn't be bothered" to go back and correct?  Why is that option only allowed for you?

Dvet was in practice for 50 plus years. That tells me that he is an older man who did NOT take typing classes in school.  I'm "only" 52 and I can say without hesitation that the boys in my high school did NOT take typing, nor did they take home ec.  Typing was a "girl" thing in those days.  Most men of my age and older who actually KNOW how to type do the old hunt and peck method and sometimes they screw up majorly.  Big deal.  I chuckle sometimes at dvets posts where he clearly had his hands mispositioned on the keys...cracks me up! But by golly, he's not stuck in the past, is willing to TRY and to  learn and to continue to grow as a human being.  It's pretty sad when people decide to pick others apart because they don't type or spell well.

The English I learned in the 70's is that it is spelled, not spelt. Spelt is something you hear in a Larry the Cable Guy routine. Even if English was not Dvet's first language, it does not mitigate or even render invalid what he has to say. Questioning his language is merely to obfuscate the issue of this current discussion, which has wandered from the OP.

It's a standard ploy in arguing for the sake of winning, regardless of the facts. The way to control the argument is to hopefully turn it to a direction where one can have control, rather than admit being wrong or not knowing enough or can attempt to discredit someone on a minor issue.

And that's why it is only fair, when someone worries about someone else's first language in a discussion not about language, they can expect the same thing applied to them. Is it silly? Yes, and language shouldn't have been questioned in the first place, as it has nothing to do with the validity of what Dvet has to say. I assumed that any misspellings were simply typos from typing too fast and then not editing, something we've all done.
