Laura, how many patties do you give him??  It says on the bag to give 3/4 patty I think... not sure.. but what about puppies?

I have a bag of the organic chicken patties I was adding to her food sometimes.  But 3/4 patty does not seem to be enough for Bailey... shes 5 months.

How do I adjust for her?

I went to the website and used their calculator.  ;)  That's the only way I know of.  You may need to feed quite a bit more for a puppy.  I will keep an eye on her and see how she does - and adjust accordingly. Ginger weighs only 26 lbs.  If she got all raw according to their calculator it would be 6oz per day.  I also have a kitchen scale, so that helps!

I only use them as special treats for my dogs. This are too high in fats and calories for my older dog.  So she and my puppy gets them ever so often. ( I buy one or 2 bags a year)

I give Shelby NVM's on the weekend. She loves it. I tried giving it to the other dogs but they won't touch it. Then again, I could put poop in a bowl and Shelby would eat it. [:D]

Olinda - Did you have your allergy tested?  What did that entail, was it painful for the dog?

My bulldog has been plagued with ear yeast her whole life and has a heart tumor.  I am anxiously awaiting my consultation with Monica Segal.    So, raw was the way to go I thought.  I can say tho, after she started NV, her ears got worse, but her coat got soft and glossary.  After a few months, I switched to BRAVO rabbit and they stayed bad.  I went back to NV  cause it has so many good things in it.  But her coat is not as glossy anymore.  I am going to switch her Steves Real Meat now. It could be her thyroid and not the food at all, I just don't know.

NV has worked wonders for my rescued dog tho.

Good to know about the other frozen foods. Thanks.

Hello Hollysmom, sorry I am so late at responding, no, I did not have Romeo allergy tested, once the vet told me what it entailed, I chickened out.  To find out about his food allergies, I did an  elimination diet, which took a lot of time and patience.

I changed my carpet for hardwood floors, use natural cleaners instead of regular chemicals and so forth.  His allergies are more seasonal (summer) so I take my precautions, and always no matter what when we come from outside, I dip his paws in black tea, and then I sponge him down with an herb cocktail.  Okay I am cray,  in water I boil: eucalyptus, rosemary, chamomile, and cloves, once is cooled I add witch hazel. I keep in the refrigerator in a spray bottle, when we go for our walks, I take it out that way when we comeback the water is not too cold.

I also use this pills (all natural) by Thorne Research called Dermaclear, only during summer though and it all seems to work together, because he does not scratch like crazy anymore.

Thanks, I used their calculator and it says 2 patties for her since shes a puppy... a great deal more than the 3/4 patty the bag says.  Glad I saw that.

Olinda thanks for responding!  I didn;t know what it entailed, but putting Holly under anathesia is out of the question.

I have just started Monica Segals special diet - buffalo and buckwheat.  FIngers crossed !

Red - after 3 romping days in the country field grasses, I have found no ticks.  I gave him his 3 NV burgers daily.  His cousins, used to only kibble, turned their noses up at it,,,well it was venison afterall !  I had the medallions thawing on  the counter top and my Dad asked if we were eating this !  LOL

Does anyone cook their medallions?  Sometimes I will leave it out for Winston, and he won't immediately eat it.  He's no longer eating much in the mornings, but if the medallion is out too long, can I microwave it and then feed it later?  Or should I just throw it out?  I know that cooking it takes away some of the nutrients, but I also don't want to feed him spoiled meat.....

I never have that problem of uneaten medallions!

Maybe he doesn't like type of meat? try a different one.  AS I said, I've left some accidently overnite on the counter thawing for up 12 hours.  It was fine.  If in doubt, smell it  (but the lamb and venision always stinks)  LOL  Don't think cooking a peice of tainted meat will make it less tainted.

I agree, if you think its old, then cooking it wont help.  I would say if in doubt throw it away.

I too have the opposite problem... Bailey scarfs it so fast I have begun to hand feed it to her.  She gets 1 patty in the am and 1 in the pm and she will eat the whole thing in 3 bites and I hate that.  I do break them up but she inhales it.  But Ive only been giving it to her once a week.

Its just me but the only one I can stand the way it looks is the organic chicken so thats all I use.

Good point about cooking tainted meat - I have been just throwing it away....I am feeding the lamb one now, I admit I hold my breath when I  open the plastic container I use for overnight thawing.  I admittedly have a picky eater so maybe he's just bored with the lamb.  He hated the chicken & turkey one, didn't eat even one medallion.  Maybe I'll try another flavor, but he's eating the NV chicken and rice kibble these days.  As long as he eats, I'm not too worried.
