That was an excellent pun, Edie.

My dog won't eat the plain yogurt, but he'll eat any flavored yogurt.  I don't think a little flavored yogurt would do much harm - we don't give him very much of it.  Only frozen in kongs every now and then.  Besides, I have a 9 lb dog and the plain yogurt always comes in such big tubs.

The vet I have recently started working with reccomends yogurt to almost everyone who comes in and she says ANY flavor is totally fine as long as it has the active cultures in it (and I assume the chocolate flavors are excluded due to common sense)...

Joey I just wanted to add to make sure you dont overfeed.  When I switched to Innova the feeding amount changed to WAY less and it just didnt seem like enough to me so I gave more and had runny poop... you dont need to feed nearly as much of the good stuff as you did before.  [:)]

Jaye - will Emma and Jake eat cottage cheese?  If so maybe you can mix some pumpkin or yogurt in with the cottage cheese and they may not notice[:)], just make sure its the low fat cottage cheese.

yes, actually they both like cottage cheese :)

i think the chocolate yogurt would even be ok, i havnt checked the ingredients but i think its artificially flavored so as long theres not actual chocolate in it, it would be ok?

As long as cocoa is not and an ingredient or any derivitaves (yikes sp) of it I would think it should be okay not sure tho.  I always thought it was just cocoa that was bad.

im going to try flavored )  probably not chocolate cause chocolate yogurt just sounds WRONG :)

they dont have any poop problems but i think giving them stuff like yogurt and pumpkin once in a while is just healthy anyway.

Just make sure it doesn't have any artifical sweetners.

Is giving flavored yogurt good for the pup/dog or plain yogurt?
    • Gold Top Dog
The vet I am working with says either is fine as long as it has active cultures.

Jaye - in order to get yogurt (or anything they don't like) into their diet, I put it in a kong with rice and a tspn. of peanut butter (heat the rice so the peanut butter melts and flavors the whole thing) then I add whatever else, apples, carrots, yogurt, pumpkin, tiny bits of lowfat cheese...  for some reason the pb flavors the whole thing...

We were over-feeding a little and were still getting the runny poops reaction. Today, we fed a little less and are hoping for better results. Thanks for the advice...again [;)]

As of this morning, their poops were still quite soft and runny and the stink is horrible. [&:] My wife and I are hoping that we get some positive results by the weekend.

Have you had their stools looked at by a vet?  Intestinal parasites or worms can cause runny poop.

Keep in mind that after switching foods it can at least a week to see results or a change (sometimes a little less when it comes to firming up stools, since that is pretty instantaneous).  Just don't give up too soon! [;)]

Also, how soon did you switch? Did you mix the food in gradually? If you switched too fast and your dogs have sensitive stomach's, the drastic change could cause more runny stools...
