I don't think that early neutering really has that kind of impact on mental maturity: Permanantly puppy. I think maturity has more to do with environment and experiences. There's just too much involved in the process. I neutered Scout at 9 months of age. He is a large breed dog and from what I can tell of all his littermates he is the easiest to deal with. The rest are still intact in different homes with different lives.  And from what I can tell he can do more and is way more obedient. But that is because I've been consistently training him his whole life.  I think that has more to do with his mental maturity than his lost parts.

I fed Kobe Bil-Jak for a while, and he loved it and would actually look forward to eating it, but since I have to buy the food, and since it was wayy expensive to buy a huge bag for him so it would last, I switched to Authority which he liked for a while, but now I think he's getting really bored of it.

I'll take all of your's advice and take him to the vet first before I buy expensive fatting foods for him. Better to catch it sooner than later.

Ask for nuetering, I am doing it this summer. Poor boy, he'll be stuck inside for a couple of days while we're outside enjoying the nice weather! :] I had my brother's dogs over the weekend since him and his girlfriend were gone in Vegas, and they're not nuetered either. None of our dogs are neutered. It's a pain. I found Kobe a couple of times trying to mount on the dogs and he wouldn't stop peeing! All of them were marking everywhere, thank goodness it was outside though because I don't really enjoy the smell of pee in the house! [[Even though Kobe and Scar have marked at least more than twice in the house already..[:'(]]] I know neutering will fix all these problems.

Now if I go to the vet and find out he has no worms.. does that mean he's okay? Or should I still switch him to a more fatting food so he can gain a little more weight. I just find it a little embarrassing when I'm asked "why is he so skinny?" or "does he get plenty of food?" or "is this breed supposed to be that skinny?" I don't know what to really say. I feed him when he wants to eat, and he confuses me. Most of the time, I'll just leave his food bowl full of food in my bedroom, but he'll sometimes wait until the night to eat it. It's summer here, so I'm figuring that's why he's eatting less now, but I need him to eat more!!! It's such a pain.

I don't want the bones on his back or hips showing anymore, I want to be proud to take him out and show a really healthy looking dog. He looks healthy otherwise. Shinny red coat, white teeth, pink gums, always wagging his tail. He's happy and seems healthy, I just want him to look healthy too.

How can you be so sure? All i want to add is please dont get your hopes up,these problems have already been established,it may take a little re-training on your part as well as the neutering, like i said too many people think of neutering as the magic bullet to all of their dogs behaviour problems.

Also wanted to add that i AM pro-neuter/spay,all dogs if not being bred from should be done IMHO!My problem is getting them done before they are mature.

My lab is now seven, as is my mixed breed.  They were both neutered/spayed at 6 months.  They are both at an excellent weight, and always have been.

Neutering will usually keep a male dog from starting to mark, but if it has become an established habit, neutering  may not stop it.

Sally was about a year when we got her done. Everyone told me that she would get lazy and fat [sm=lol.gif] She obviously didn't get the memo--

I think that neutering causes dogs to get fat and lazy is a myth. The REAL problem is that most owners dont give their dogs near enough exercise and feed them too much junk! Their metabolism may slow down slightly after being done, however not enough IMO to produce an obese lazy dog![8|] Dogs only become fat and lazy if their owners allow them to.[&:]

    I am one happy momma!
:] Of course, he'll still be going to the vet, just to make sure.
