see where you're coming from Abbysdad,but if i was in your situation i would be thinking ,yes the itchies may be better but is my dog going to have as long a life span as she should on a food with ingredients like SD contain?

I am actually not feeding her that now, but not because I was not satisfied with it but I found a couple of other foods she also does well on and likes better, not sure if you have ever lived with an itchie dog, but she was miserable could not even sleep at night, she would be up scratching all night and crying, and she would have bloody ears in the morning, I have no guilt feeding the Science Diet, because I personally believe that there is more to a food than it looking good on paper. I think if a dog is showing problems on the outside, there are probably going to be problems on the inside.

Could be because it is so very low on meat. I know dogs that have done very well on Solid Gold Holistique, which is also very low on meat. In my opinion, it's sometimes the hormones and antibiotics shoved into the meat and the quality of the meat that the dog has a problem with, not the meat itself

I have often thought that, she can eat all the fresh meat she wants with no problem, but if I feed her a kibble that is supposedly high in meat content she seems to have issues, while I won't debate that dogs should eat meat I have often wondered if a high meat kibble is necessarily good thing.

I have a dog who is similar. The highest protein kibble she ever ate and did ok on was Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish. It's like.... 21% or so protein. She hasn't had kibble in about a year, now (I think?) and she eats a LOT more protein. I wonder if the dried protein isn't just harder to break down?

There's a difference between a high meat kibble and high protein kibble (I believe Abbysdad is referring to a high meat kibble). You can have a very high proten kibble with very little meat (SD, Pro Plan for example). Kibbles such as NB and Cali Natural have lower protein because there is no plant based protein in them and they have a moderate meat content, not because they have little meat.

That's a good point. You know I just had this same discussion with a Halo rep.
