Beneful Problems

I also have to wonder about the date on the food in question. I hope someone is checking into all of this. And I also think its quite possible that someone out there is starting rumors....just a thought. Seems I have been reading this long enough that someone would have come up with a recall or some solid information by now.

I would imagine this is correct as it is posted all over different canine boards right now, but not in the news.  I saw it on Aol, dog food project.......

After what happened at the Diamond Plant especially,,, I can't imagine that Purina would not be investigating, recalling, or putting out a warning if there were any doubt.  Gee, even Diamond did that, it is just that it took so long for the media to get a hold of their information and broadcast it. Again, just like Purinas money  to advertise ,they can alert us just as well and I have to believe they would. They are much too big of a company to ruin their reputation by letting more and more dogs get sick when they knew they had a product out there that was doing it.
    AT LEAST I HOPE SO!!

You know, you all are saying the people who feed crappy foods just don't know better, but isn't that the point? Why don't they know better? Because they don't care enough to. Would it be okay for someone to feed their kids nothing but candy bars and potato chips because they didn't know better? Considering most people think dog food is disgusting, I think they DO know better, they just don't CARE. My sister fed her dog food that she literally felt she had to RUN wash her hands after touching. But it's okay for her dog to eat every meal??? She KNEW it was crap, but she fed it because it was cheap and convenient. I think that's how 95% of dog owners are. And that is just NOT okay, IMO.

Yeah, I'm judgemental, and I'm not sorry for that.

Says on this web page that beneful was notified of the problem and that they are looking into it....

Yeah but that website is as good as a message board like this when it comes to rumors!
Something should be coming from the company if there was a problem that they were aware of. I'm glad it says that they are looking into it but we need something substantial!

First of all, don't you wash your hands after touching your dog food?????  I do!  I wash them after touching my own also most of the time!
I think comparing Beneful dog food to feeding your kids nothing but candy bars and potato chips wrong.   There is pretty much NOTHING good in candy bars and potato chips. Beneful has a lot of good things in it,,, its just that it has a lot of ingredients that some people don't like. PLUS potato chips and candy are snacks... so to feed your kids snacks only would be bad AND it would show up in their health.  Most people that feed their dogs grocery store dog food such as Beneful most likely don't have any more health problems with their dogs than you and I...because dog food has needed vitamins and nutrients.
I also think that people don't know better, NOT because they don't want to, but because they have no reason to. If they are feeding their dog Beneful, or any other food for that matter,  and their dog is healthy and happy, why would most people be looking to change?   I changed because of an unhealthy dog,,,and again, I don't think changing his food helped him to get healthy either..although hopefully its helping KEEP him healthy now.  Again, we are a chosen few (out of the million of dog owners) that spend half of our lives on dog message forums talking dog food.
I have a friend for instance that has 2 dogs...goes to some kind of events at least twice a week with them. One is a search and rescue dog (the other will be but is still a pup),,,she went for a couple of years of training for that. She takes the dogs to nursing homes and hospitals. She loves her dogs just as much as you and I do, she spends probably more time and money on and with them than you and I do.... and she thinks I am entirely NUTS for cooking meat for my dog, for giving her extras like raw eggs and yogurt and also for going out of the way to buy the food I buy for her. Why does she think this? Because not only are her dogs completely happy and healthy,,,but the dogs and dog owners that she in involved with don't.  We argue dog food all the time!

Well, for one thing many, many people do believe the ads they see on TV and in magazines.  They see that iams, Euk, Beneful, Science Diet is great for your dog and they believe it.  And i am not bashing ANY of those foods because i feed purina one to my 3 goldens and not because of any ads on TV or in magazines, but based on their looks and their health and our previous over 50 year record od healthy dogs on purina.

You see ads for orange juice, yogurt, milk, telling you how good they are for you and you believe it.  Do you do extensive research to see if Dannon yogurt is better for you than yoplait?  Do you research to see if Kellogs raisin bran is better for you than Post?    Do you researc h to see if Borden milk is better for you than oak Farms?  Well, i don't of anyone who does and if most people don't do it for their food, they sure aren't going to do it for dog food.  And not because they are lazy or don't care, but bcause they believe what they see.

And as for being judgemental, you better watch out.  While you are judging someone on how they feed their dog, someone  may be judging you on your personality, your house keeping, the way you treat your dog (they may think you are going about it wrong),  your life style, etc.  It is not nice to go around judging people.

Beneful is considered complete and balanced nutrition, and while I probably would not feed it, I have seen some dogs do really well on it, and just like any food, I have seen dogs not do so well on it, and just because one owner might have a problem with corn or artificial coloring, doesn't mean another owner is negligent because they don't have the exact same beliefs, feeding your pet is a personal decisions and there is not one right way to do it.

You see, with people and kids it's different.

YOU choose what you eat, and YOU choose what your kids eat.

Our dogs don't. They depend on us to feed them. And it's our job to keep them fit, healthy, and happy.

Part of keeping our dogs healthy, is doing the proper research to find out what food is best for THEM, not for us.
Finding foods WITHOUT fillers, and WITHOUT junk, and WITHOUT artificial coloring.

I've recently posted on 3 forums to find which food is best for my dog after an elimination diet, studying what she does and doesn't react to, and what is the most WHOLESOME food for HER.

Yes, I took my budget into consideration, but I would NEVER buy Beneful, Purina, Pedigree, Mighty Dog, Eukanuba, or Iams because I WANT what's best for HER, not necessarily my budget.

There are ways to work around conveinance, and budget, and I think people are going about it the wrong way in this case.

But sometimes,as some here have posted, ONE of these IS BEST for their dog.  They have tried others and had problems, nothing but problems.  I did the one time I tried my Buck on a "better food', so i put him back on purina as it was working great for him, and still is. I wasn't going to put him thru that puking every meal again just to find "a btter food for him".  If they threw it up, don't like it/won't eat it, it gives them the runs, then it isn't best for them.

They had a quote from somebody at Purina on one of the sites a few days ago stating that they were looking into the problem..

That is like saying that someone was feeding their kids McDonalds so they decided to try them on shrimp and the kid got sick so they went back to McDonalds food. There are so many good dogfoods avilable , I doubt that most of would make your dog ill.
