Some problems after switching to Innova

Honestly, because Innova is soooo calorie dense, folks tend to overfeed it.  Cuz whatever amount they OUGHT to feed just doesn't look like enough.  One of these days I'm gonna COUNT the kibbles in a cup and do the math so I can say a single piece of Innova has X kcals, so it DOES make a difference!

Glenda is right, youd don't feed much Innova Evo, read the package.  My 9 pound boy gets 1/3 vup a day with a tablespoon of canned smashed in.  The label on the package gives a rather wide range for his size, though, anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 cup/day, that's a pretty big range.  Start out near the lowest range recommended, unless you dog is highly active on the run or in agility every day.  This is a highly efficient food.  I know other people have come on the nutrition board and asked why their dogs were all off a sudden "ballooning" on Evo--and it's overfeeding.

Ok, I just counted...how pathetic is that?  In a level cup of regular adult formula Innova there are 274 kibbles.  Each would contain slightly more than two kcals.  Doesn't sound like much, BUT if your dog needs only 200 kcals per day, well those extra six kibbles add up and *could* cause a soft stool.

Very true! It's amazing how small of an extra amount can cause a GI upset

What I find amazing is that I actually counted all the danged things!!

Or, could it be that one of the ingredients just doesn't agree with the dog?  They've got lots of stuff in there, cottage cheese, chicken.  I know Willow can't eat it because of the chicken and it took me forever to figure that out.

I have visions of you counting out the kibble Glenda and it is pretty funny!

Lori, I'd probably still be scratching my head trying to figure out why Boss was throwing up after eating Solid Gold Millenium if you woulnd't have pointed out it could be the beef. I was so confused how he could eat the Wolf King and not have a problem. [sm=party.gif]

I love it when there's such a simple solution.  Since I've cut back on the amount of food the air has been clear and the poop firm!
