    Weight gain from Nature's Balance?

We've recently switched out allergy dog to Nature's Balance Sweet Potato and Fish.  She loves it but has seemed to gain weight.  Anyone notice that with their dog? Anyone know if this tends to put weight on dogs? I am going to start not giving her quite as much. Thanks!

Yes I noticed that as well so we just decreased the amount of food and it came right back off.

Thanks much.  She loves it too much to find another food.  Were you feeding the sweet potato and fish, too?

Natural Balance is a bit more nutrient dense than most foods.  That means, you feed less to get the same amount of nutrition.

It would also depends how much scoops pre take etc

yeah. I usually give 1 c. in the a.m. and same in the p.m.  We've only been giving NB for about 3 weeks and she's gotten a ROUND belly.  So, we'll keep feeding in the morning and afternoon, but just less.  She gets enough other stuff throughout the day so she won't go hungry[:D].

What were you feeding her, before the NB?

How much do they weigh? Maybe try 1/4 a cup twice a day? Misty gets a round belly as well. She's gets 1/3 cup twice a day. Unless the kids around here are giving her treats lol

Smokey gained about 10% body weight in a month on the NB Sweet Potato and Fish.  I have to cut her portion size down about 10% ...

We used venison, duck, and fish formula..

The Natural Balance Duck has 465 calories a cup, the Ultra Premium has 485; don't know about the other formulas;    [linkage=3#Post253]http://forums.dogfoodproject.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=253&an=0&;page=3#Post253[/link]  >http://forums.dogfoodproject.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=253&an=0&;page=3#Post253]http://forums.dogfoodproject.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=253&an=0&;page=3#Post253[/link]   but I would guess the Fish and Venison would have a similar amount of calories.

Today instead of 1 c. in the morning and 1 c. later afternoon - I gave about 1/2 cup both times. She's got the round belly. Before the NB she was getting the Nutro Lamb and Rice - we switched because one of the things she's allergic to is lamb. If she continues to gain weight, we'll switch to something else.

WHAT!!!????  OMG, I've been giving Willow a cup of Fish/Sweet Potato in the am with meat added and then two other meals of her prescription food, plus snacks.  She's going to look like a barrel.  I've got to reaccess these portions.  She should be getting about 800 calories a DAY.  [:o]

just thought I'd chime in that Bugsy has half NB venison and half Blue Lge Breed and hasn't gained weight at all - the kcal on the Blue is higher than the NB so if he gets only NB I have to feed him more.
just thought I share my experience

Bogey has a tendency to be heavy - she's a Brittany but shorter and stalkier than most. And she doesn't get as much exercise as she should. During the week, no walks but plenty on the weekends.
