Problems with Bynature Organics Canned

Well, that sucks. That's a food I've really wanted to try. Let us know what their CS has to say about the stuff in your cans.

That does suck. Petsmart recently started carrying Bynature foods and that was going to be my next food to try. But if they are having issues, then I guess I won't...

Hi guys, just wanted to know if anybody out there is feeding their dogs the Bynature Organics line of canned food and have encountered any problems? I started feeding my dog the Organic Turkey, Sweet Potatoes and Peas canned a few days ago. I love the ingredients and my dog (who is picky) eats it enthusiastically. With the first can that I had openend, I spotted something that looked like a hard seed. I thought it was a pea seed and just threw it away. But I've just checked on the internet and pea seeds don't look like the seed that I had found in the can. Also, yesterday I spotted a piece of plastic about 1 1/2 inches long and a little more than 1/4 inch wide. This was from the second can that I had opened. I was shocked and disappointed as I have never come across quality problems with canned food before. This reminds me of the problems that people have reported with the Merrick canned foods. But wait...today I found 3 small fragments of bone!!! I was wondering why my dog had left these small pieces of food in her bowl. I picked it up to let her lick it off my fingers and to my surprise they felt very hard. I then realized they were small (and sharp!) pieces of bones. I had only seen 3 in her bowl but who knows how many pieces she may have swallowed while eating! I called the company and nobody was around so I left a message with my contact number. I really would like to know what they have to say about this. [sm=uhoh.gif]

Wow that does suck.  My company is picking them up to be their distributor soon.  Uh Oh!  I tried the By Nature Organic Cat food.  Smelled great.  And my cat thought it was wonderful. 

I know nothing about this food.  I am assuming it is one of the premium or at least top brands?  Well, i can't blame you for having doubts.  I would not want to feed my dogs organic sharp bone chips, organic plastic or organic unknown "seed pod?" 
 
Seriously, if i opened two cans in a row of ANY brand of food, from cheapest to most expensive and found "items" in them,  I would be very concerned with that company's manufacturing prodedure and even with the ingredients themselves.

Personally, i am not partial to them.  I only tired plastic once--was in a rush and forgot to take the plastic wrap  off my cheese before making a grilled cheese sandwich![:'(][:'(][:'(]  Triple UGH

Well, I'm the one who had the objects in the Merrick.  I had one can that had a blue piece of plastic that they told me came from the wrapping on the chicken.  And, in another can of the same flavor I found a shipping staple--the kind with two points.  And, they never explained that one to me even though the told me they were going to look into it. 
 
Yet, whenever I tell this story someone always says they still like Merrick and feed it.

I believe in that old saying, "Burn  me once, shame on you, Burn me twice, shame on me."  I have also heard it as Fool me instead of Burn me.
 
Two cans in a row or even close together with "things" in them  would be way to much for me to feel safe about that product, human or dog.
 
And Lori, I have learned that until it happens "to me", many dont' really give it much thought and think it just a fluke.  maybe so, but two flukes in a row is a bit much.  I don't want to wait til my dog has  gotten something bad and then think "Gee, it can happen to me after all" 

Willowchow... did you find the metal pieces in the Wingalings?  I sell the Merrick canned and this past spring they had a recall on the Wingalings for metal pieces.  Supposedly they started getting their chicken from another source, and they weren't aware that the wings had the metal tags on them.  They have since switched suppliers and haven't had any problems that I'm aware of.  It wouldn't explain why there was a piece of blue plastic though.

I have not received a call from Bynature's CS and am hoping to hear from them on Monday or I will be very mad. I know it's a small company but I can't believe they only have 1 person working at CS. Their recorded message has a guy saying that he will call back when he gets off the phone or when he returns to his desk. Anyway, the Bynature Organics canned that I got were from Petfooddirect and I have reported the problem to them. I have also returned the remaining 10 cans (ordered a case of 12 and opened 2). They have a 100% guarantee on the products that they sell so I will be getting my money back. However, it's not just the money that I'm concerned about. I'm appalled to have found all those "nasty surprises" in the food of a company that says they "live up to their 130 year heritage of providing diets of the highest quality" (from their website). I do like their ingredients and most importantly my dog loved the food. But what has happened is unacceptable. Yesterday I looked at the rest of the food that I had opened from the 2nd can and stored in a plastic container in the fridge. Upon further inspection, I detected more small pieces of bones. [:'(] I was so disgusted and dumped it all. I will keep you guys updated, as I am sure some of you have thought about buying this brand of food. Who knows..there may also be people who are feeding their pets contaminated Bynature stuff and just haven't spotted the problems. The bones were hard to see as they have a similar color to the food and really blend in. Also, I use a spoon to break the canned food in my dog's bowl, that was how I detected the problems. If I had just scooped out the food and put it into my dog's bowl and let her eat it, I probably wouldn't have found all those nasty surprises! I just can't wait to hear what the company says, and what they will do to rectify the situation..

No, it wasn't the same metal clips that were found in the Wingalings.  This happened to me quite awhile before those issues started and it was for sure a shipping staple--it was Granny's Pot Pie. 

The plastic they explained was from the chicken--it comes to them wrapped in blue plastic.  That was found in a separate can also Granny's Pot Pie. 

For me, I'm done with Merrick between the issues I've had with the canned, the reports of the chicken with the metal clips and the related issues with other products from their plants---someones not paying attention over there and that bothers me.  And, their lack of response bothered me--a great deal.  They were supposed to look into things and call me back--they never did.  That's telling me they didn't really care much. 

Sandra--That's pretty much the responses I've gotten.  The "I've never had an issue" thing.  Which is fine but I'm still glad I've made it known here.  Personally, if this hadn't happened to me and someone else had said they found a shipping staple--I would of stopped using it.  The plastic, honestly, that probably wouldn't of stopped me so much but the shipping staple could of killed her. 

And, just like the above poster if I had just been putting her meals in her bowl without looking she would of eaten it. 

i know this is old hat, but after my Hunter was killed by proHeart6, and so many thousands of reactions, over 6000 reported to FDA and deaths, over 600 reported to FDA and they said only 10 to 15% of the deaths & reactions are reported to them,  I had to warm people. One thing, i was able to give sites to go to where many stories of rections & deaths were reported, actual FDA reports, etc could be found.  Many took warning and never got the injections for their dogs, or stopped if they  had. But when it was pulled many were so upset because their dogs had never had a problem.  It was just so easy to get a twice a year injection rather than have to give a monthy pill.  The thing is, many times it was the 3rd or 4th injection that finally put the dogs over the edge.  And as far as i am concerned, when you find "stuff" in dog food so close together, that raises a red flag and  people should pay attention.  Their dog could be the next to get a staple or sharp bones or plastic that could cause stomach problems, etc.

I've had people PM me and say I'm lying about it and I've actually had at least one time where the person posted it on one of the threads.  Now, why would I do that?  Why would it be of any concern to me who feeds what??

As for the ProHeart--my good friend was so impressed with that shot when it first came out.  She thought it was great that she didn't need to remember any pills once a month.  And, she had been taking her beautiful and young black lab for them every six months.  He was a show dog and she traveled often with him and that's another reason it was her favorite thing.  But, she stopped after all this stuff about it came out. 

My opinion is they are not careful with products for animals like they should be.  I don't take Willow's safety any more lightly than I would a human childs of mine.  But, lots of people think there is a huge difference and to me anyway, that is still reflected in quality control at drug and food companies for dogs.
 
For example--if a piece can break off a toy and choke a child they recall it right away.  Greenies had been doing the same thing and they never recalled that product.  The company might have cared a little--probably more about the profits than the dogs---and changed their ingredients.
