Dog wont eat Science Diet or Natural Balance...but will Bil Jac?

I had that problem when I first came here and it was suggested to me not to give in. Best advise I ever had. I don't feel guilty if one turns their nose up at it, I just say, hey when your hungry enough, you'll eat. I now know what is good for them and puppy dog eyes aren't going to get me to change my mind.

    Great replies.

My vet also said it is VERY IMPORTANT to stick to one kind of food, no matter what it is.

And no, my vet doesn't sell any kind of food, so she is not biased.

I just want the bets for my little man and am willing to spend an extra $$ or two to get him to eat correctly.

    Thanks agian!

I'm not taking a position on switching, however, this is what the Whole Dog Journal says....

"To prevent nutrient toxicity, deficiency or implace the simple solution is to feed a variety of high quality foods perhaps 3 or 4 foods over the course of a year.

I agree with what Whole Dog Journal says regarding the rotation of foods, but I think you can do this without having to switch dry foods.  By adding homecooked and/or different varieties of canned food etc, you can achieve this without the need to constantly switch dry foods.  I think WDJ suggests this assuming that only dry food is fed (which in that case that would be the best option).

My dogs do great on Bil-Jac and I won't be switching any time soon.  I also give some Eagle Pack canned food just for variety and to help my girl keep on weight when shes in heat.  She used to have terrible coat, but when I switched her to the Bil-Jac, there was a HUGE improvement.  They eat it, it works for them, why change?  The only thing I am planning on doing is rotating with the Eagle Pack dry.  That way, if there are any nutritional deficiencies in either, they will balance out.  I'd also like to have a back up incase I can't get Bil-Jac sometime.

I don't change the kibble myself either.  I DO change the protein source and the veggies in their homecooked so they get far more variety.

All dogs are picky eaters if their owners let them be. Most dogs really enjoy variety-- that's why you hear so often about the dog that loved the food the first two weeks, then decided not to eat it, but the next brand offered, oh joy, good for two weeks, then well, not.
