have a 10 lb. mini dachshund who is doing very well with Innova. Even though they don't have a product specifically for small dogs, the kibble is not very large and many small dogs do well on it.

Smilee innova makes a small bites version,EVO  also has tiny kibbles. My dogs weigh 13 and 21lbs and neither of them would eat the regular innova.It was like the kibbles were too big and they would eat a bit and then lose interest,toooo Lazy IMO! It's a completely different story with the small bites and evo,the small bites are even smaller than  evo,they have no probs cleaning their bowls with these 2 [8|]

It just depends, I personally have had better luck with the mid grade foods like Pro Plan and Eukanuba,  I feel I get better results with them, others prefer to feed organic, wholistic type foods, but I don't eat that type of diet myself, so I don't have a problem not feeding my dogs that type of diet.

So you could care less that you're feeding your dogs food that contains cancerous and tumorous meats, roadkill, phenobartitol from the ground up cats and dogs, farm and zoo animals,  the toxins from the flea collars, pesticides and heavy metals, plastic wrap, styrofoam trays, the hormones, antibiotics,  chemicals like BHA/BHT and Ethoxyquin which are KNOWN to cause kidney and liver disease,  propylene glycol which is a component of antifreeze, which by the way is deadly to dogs.

we feed kenny nutro hollistic which we buy at petsmart. i personally think that dog foods with by-products are nasty and animals don't deserve to be fed that crap. if i remember correctly, our stuff doesn't have wheat, corn, or by-products. the good thing is that when you buy a quality food, you don't have to feed your dog as much b/c it doesn't have fillers. so even though you may pay more, the bag of food will last you a while.

I have never seen the proof for this outrageous claim and after twenty years surveying ingredient suppliers I have never found a supplier of such. However, fantastic myths easily get life and the more fantastic they are the more life they have.
I don't feed the food that you are talking about, but it doesn't matter because you don't like the food I feed either,,,EAGLE PACK.    BUT why should anyone feed their dog something that he doesn't do well with, to please you???  He knows what he is doing, he knows what is good for his dog!   There are probably more dogs out in the world being fed Purina and living a hell of a lot longer than some of our dogs that are being fed food that we are paying a lot more for and going out of our way to get.  

i really appreciate all the information you all have posted in answer to my question.  i dont really think its fair to tell abbysdad that he has no concern for his dogs health.  im sure hes doing what he thinks is best for his dogs, even if its not what you think is best.   i dont want this thread to turn into something ugly when im only looking for information.  please respect other posters, even if you disagree with them.  if anyone has more advice feel free.... im soaking it all in

Oops Jaye,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I got so caught up in the food discussion,,the what to feed, what not to feed, whats good, whats bad, that I forgot you said SMALL Dog, and here I am telling you about the Feed Trials for the Great Danes and giant breeds.   However, Eagle Pack dog food is really good, even for small dogs.

LMAO... I find that hilarious from someone whose website is so full of competitor product bashing and self-back patting . This guy is a Class A hypocrite.
 
There is PLENTY of proof that this is indeed true and there are numerous articles and testimonies from investigators and people who have worked in the rendering industry as well as vets who ADMIT that their euthanized cats and dogs are sent to rendering plants.

So Diane... in other words you're also saying that if you know feeding your kids McDonalds every day is unhealthy for them because of all the garbage and preservatives and say it was proven to cause heart disease, kidney disease, and contained loads of chemicals and ingredients that were proven harmful and even deadly.... as long as your kids weren't actually showing any symptoms right off, you'd keep on feeding it to them ??  What.. until one of them came down w/something and /or died ? Is that what it would take ?  Do you think you would be being a good parent ? Do you think letting them continue to live on McDonalds food even though you KNEW what the potential hazards and consequences were that you would be showing your children that you had a genuine concern for their health ?  I think not.

myorganicpets, there are major differences in feeding dog food to your dog and letting your child smoke and have sex.  you cant compare the two.  the dog food and mcdonalds food was a much better comparison.  people have differences of opinion.  instead of trying to make someone feel dumb for thier choices and opinions, maybe you could try to nicely teach them what you believe to be right.  maybe abbysdad doesnt think there is enough proof, he thinks what hes feeding is healthy.  thats no reason to insult people and try to make them feel dumb.  im sure hes not knowingly feeding his dog bad food.  i implore you to try and be respectful in posts.  try teaching instead of preaching. 

Sharon, what concerns me is that regarding quality dog food, I do agree with you and value your opinion. I just don't understand why you find it acceptable to say horrible things to people that don't agree with you. WHY?

Seems to me that anyone in the business of selling better dog food would be jumping on the bandwagon to agree with the theory IF it were totally true!
 
Anyway, I believe it is true to a point (thank you anyway, but I've read all those links at one time or another) but then that is why we say that we watch our list of ingredients being careful to buy specific chicken, beef, lamb etc and NOT MEAT!  So that takes care of your euthanized dogs in the dog food. Abbysdad is not feeding food that has MEAT in it either, of course there are other ingredients that might not be up to what you think is good. But I think the 4D thing gets thrown around way too much when talking about dog food, and this is certainly one of those times.

So are you asking me a question or answering?  Both I guess.
Do you think letting my kids smoke, drink, skip school and have sex is in the same conversation as a fellow who is feeding his dog food that is agreeing with him and keeping him healthy?  I think not!   Do you think he should feed him Timberwolf (since that is the food you keep pushing around here) and have him not do well, or have allergies, or throw up in order to not feed him ProPlan?   I think not! I believe it was Abbysdad who stated before that he tried the premium foods for his dog and he didn't do well on them. That is all we need to know...because why would we make our dog sick for the sake of  feeding him food that makes a few people on a dog message board happy???
