Sharp chicken bones....?

Hell, I'd be a worry wart if I had to send her to the vet once a year to be knocked out and have her teeth cleaned.

I don't understand why lots of people just continue to ignore that the options for teeth cleaning aren't just raw bones or going under anesthesia for a dental.  My groomer cleans Willows teeth and I keep them clean at home.  Her teeth are not a mess.  And, so many times, I read how someones vet said the dogs teeth are so great and couldn't believe it.  Well, mines exact words to me were "keep up the good work".  So, there you go, it's not all about raw bones.

Also, I'm just curious. . .if someone here (God forbid) gave their dog a raw bone and it became ill would those of you that now feed them change your mind and stop them??  I'm really curious because it seems many of you converted after you started here.

Where do those statistics come from and how were they collected?

I am also interested in this information.

    Thanks.

I've been feeding raw bones to dogs for the last 20 years. A single isolated incident of sickness wouldn't convince me to change because I see such benefits to behavior, overall health, and teeth. People choke on steak and get food poisoning from potato salad-- has this knowledge ever stopped you from chowing down? not me.
I do feel really awful about the two dogs I killed by feeding them crap kibble their entire lives.

Statistically, your dog is much more likely to die from the side effects of dirty teeth than from eating raw chicken bones.

I took this statement as saying many more dogs get sick from the side effects of dirty teeth than they do from eating raw chicken bones.Statistically my vet see's more problems from dirty teeth than they do from bones.Statistically i have met more dog owners with dogs who have had problems associated with gum disease etc than i have dogs that have had problems with chicken bones.

So statistically speaking i would have to agree that you would have more luck finding a dog who has had troubles brought on by bad teeth than you would a dog who has had troubles brought on by bones.
