Iams--ingredients

I've not even looked at their stuff lately.  I was at Pet Supplies "Plus" this morning and passed by it, though.

Have you seen their new TV commercials?  I saw one the other night while watching Big Brother: All-Stars.  It said something like, "More chicken, egg, and fish protein than the leading dog food."  I didn't know whether to laugh or vomit.

not surprising..of course they would do that, its cheaper to make, and and there are way too many uneducated people out there..all they have to do is have some catchy commercial, with misleading information, and people are going to go out and buy it..its sad but its always going to be that way..i was at walmart tonight and i walked past the dog food section and this girl was like "oh look at this food, you add water and it turns to gravy, i bet he'll like this, it says it nutritional too!" and that was that, they walked off with 2 huge bags of OL ROY!!! ukkk ..in ol roy "PREMIUM" foods the main ingredients are: animal fat, animal digest, meat and bone meal, chicken by-products, corn meal, BHA...might as well fed your dog saw dust..ukk iams is no better in my opinoin, better than ole roy, but still no good. Im not too fond of most kibbles though..i chose not too feed kibble anymore because i like knowing EXACTLY what goes into each and every one of my dogs meals 

When Mike got Ollie he was fed Iams from the breeder and was suggested he stay on it. Of course Mike bought it and fed it to Ollie for a short time...eventually we realized that he was going several times a day, had tons of gas and in the end we figured out that he was probably pooping more than he was eating,,,poor guy!  That was my only experience with Iams,,,we took him off of it and never looked back.

Hmm..that upsets me.  IAMS was always a decent food IMO, but now that they are downgrading the ingredient panel, I am not happy.

they are probably just following Purina's example with that horrible Beneful. Which sells like hotcakes due to their slick packaging and ad campaign. It's clear consumers don't have any interest in the actual ingredient list.

DH just rolls his eyes anytime the Beneful or Iams ads come on.  I personally believe that TV should be interactive and these ads usually elicit a several minute long rant ....

My "favorite" ad is the Science Diet "shedding can be a sign of poor nutrition....."  It comes on Food Network all the time and I always freak out...lol

Don't get me started on Beneful! lol I think their "Healthy Harvest" may actually be one of the worst foods on the market. It doesn't have meat in any form- even by-products and then it has like 5 kinds of artificial colors.
 
Their advertising is so misleading, it just really burns my biscuits because the general public believes it and they think they're buying a good food for their dog. [&o]

Every time I go to Petsmart there are people buying huge bags of Beneful. I have to restrain myself from going up to them and screaming "read the ingredients" at them. I think that stuff is even worse than Old Roy. At least it doesn't contain five difference carcinogenic dyes and makes no pretense at being healthy, just cheap and basic.

It really is disturbing when a big dog food comapny like this goes backwards - not even maintaining their resonable level. I cannot imagine -- with all the employees, research, blah blah blah, that they aren't going FORWARD.
Maybe the hit by PETA has lowered the profits and they are trying to make up for the loses?

Or maybe they are lowering the Iams lines...and gonna beef up quality on the Eukanuba lines? Wouldn't that be amazing?

Why restrain yourself? I dont! I always have a quiet word when i see someone with a bag of ol roy,beneful et al in their cart. It cant hurt to try and tell them exactly what it is they are feeding their pets.If they listen,good,if not,well nothing lost.

I spoke to a guy just the other day in the supermarket.He had on an armani type suit and his cart was filled with expensive exotic items,then he heads to the pet food isle and picks up THE cheapest crappiest brand dog food stocked there. I just asked him 'why' does he feed that brand to his dog,his reply "because they eat it"[sm=rolleyes.gif].I then went on abut how bad the ingredients in the food was and that his dog would probably get more nutrtition out of eating the bag!And that the money he may be saving now,will no doubt be tripled in vets bills in the future.I finished with if he truly cares about his dog then he would stop feeding that crap,and start buying something that resembled actual food....or somethin' like that[&o] If he listened,well good,if not,then at least i hope i made him feel guilty!!

Nope,i have no shame when it comes to speaking up for animals,people can take or leave my advice,but if i see a dog being mistreated or being fed a bad food(which in my opinion arent that interchangeable) then i will speak up to that owner!

I don't know, I just think that's WAY out of line.  Frankly, I don't think you are helping at all by acting like that.  It's so over the top and rude that all people are going to do is think you are a loon and ignore you.  And, I think there is a huge difference between feeding a low quality food and mistreating an animal on purpose.

That's my point exactly! People see the Beneful bag with the colorful vegetables all over it and here the misleading commercials about how healthy it is, so they actually think they're buying something GOOD for their dog. And you're exactly right about the foods like 'Ol Roy, at least people aren't misled into thinking it's some kind of wonderful food...
