Question about food

Oye, you know, I thought my latest bag smelled funny.  Going to have to read up on this whole thing.... *sigh*

 I went to the warehouse I use, bought pet food today.  I've used TOTW for my cats and my dogs for over 4 years now.

They had some of the cat formula I use left, so I was alright there.

The dog food, TOTW was all out.  And Tony (the owner) said he's already placed NEXT month's orders and been told those will not be filled, not even partially.

He is guiding folks to Earthborn Holistic.  I need a grain free, so that limited me to 3 formulas.  One is a bison version (orange bag, forgot the formula name)  and the TOTW formula was bison and venison, so I got a bag of that, will see how it goes. 

I forgot to check the protein % till I was home; my dogs get protein itch with high protein foods.  The TOTW was 28%.  This is 34%.  Oh boy, I hope that is not going to be an issue for my 3. *

*Yup, I put 5, had to edit it; just too soon for me to realize I only have 3 pups now.:(

 What's most similar to Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Bison. Luke is fine, he eats Nature's Variety, but the other two are eating that, so they clearly need a new food.

 Can they do duck and potato?  According to the guy where I buy critter stuff, NB's Duck & Potato isn't made at the NC plant, which is why it isn't on the recall list.

 My mom went with Earthborn. I was supposed to meet her in the store and help her pick, but I didn't know she was going to the store she went to. So, I went to one store, and she went to another, and I didn't have time to go over to where she was. This was on Saturday. I guess the store had pulled everything they knew was recalled on Friday, but of course by Saturday midday, there was more. So, I just read her a list of brands not to buy, and that's what she came home with. She switched both the dogs over, and neither dog got sick from a 50/50 mix. That's pretty good for Callie, because she is almost guaranteed to need pumpkin any time food is changed.

According to the guy where I buy food, Earthborn is comparible to TOTW (that's why he brought it in). 

Fromm foods are made in Wisconsin and have no affiliation with Diamond.Several grain free options there too.My Aussies are on Premium Edge made by Diamond but my bag number was ok.When the bag's done I'll probably go back to a Fromm formula.

The PSP that I go to had a lot of TOTW but there were empty spots on the shelf,,, places that are usually piled high...and they probably have some in the back usually also.  The mgr told me he keeps putting his order in and gets in what he gets in which is something, but not what he all orders.  Oh and they had lots of Diamond brand food too.  He said all the product numbers are cleared.

On the Great Dane forum I am on, some people are finding new shipments of TOTW and some are finding none at all...depending on your state.

I have a bag of my Canidae beef and fish waiting for me at that store... just didn't need it quite yet and didn't have the money to get it yet. That has not been recalled,

The shame of it is that most of these foods have nothing wrong with them, they just came from the S. Carolina plant.

 I went to a store today for fish food. They had lots of empty spots, and a pallet full of stuff labeled not for sale.

  They were probably concerned with cross contamination. It's likely that they use the same equipment to make different foods (they make at least 12 different brands there).  Unless they thoroughly clean the equipment after each production run, there could be a risk for cross contamination.

 Sandra, I'm in my old age, too, and I so completely and 100% agree with you.  And since you are from Texas, as am I, you might be interested in knowing that Merck made Vioxx.  The lawsuits were in the millions.  Just 2-3 years ago, Merck suddenly came out with the vaccine for cervical cancer/ Gardasil/  for young girls that our State officials tried to mandate.  It is only my personal opinion, but I had to wonder if Merck wasn't trying to recoup monies lost.  I'm right there with you in being distrustful. - Susan
