What's everyone feeding nowadays...

I'm trying Canine Caviar and Acana Pacifica, has anyone else tried these?  My dog likes them fine so far :-)

Zoey is on Chicken Soup ( as well as the other dogs too, I kept telling my BF that Purina one was not a *good* food), now she's getting it topped with a natural balance turkey roll.

hmm, finally found some reviews on the turkey roll, maybe not such a good choice?? Looks like alot of sugar in it.

Finishing off the Canidae and making the change over to Merrick.

I have had my boys on Natural Balance forever and received a free sample of Halo and my boys LOVE IT!  I noticed they also eat slower on the Halo.  I still have a whole bag of Natural Balance though -- is it really best  to slowly switch over?

I've switched foods without doing it the "right" way. lol   None of my dogs ever had a problem but I'm sure there are dogs that do need that gradual transition.  I tend to feed a little less than normal when I'm making a food change but only for a few days till I see how they're reacting.

I just switched to cannidae after feeding eathborne all summer. Neiko and lily did great on earthborne but abbie got an ear infection and her urine ph was high. She also lost a lot of weight. I talked to my vet about how i normally rotate foods and she discourages it. And this is a vet who is on top of all the food choices out there. She likes innova, blue, canidae, etc. She laughed about wilderness saying every dog she knows on it gets fat but qualified that might be a good food for abbie since abbie has the metabolism of a race horse. However, i wanted to go with a non grain free food for a while so canidae it is. Plus it doesntis break the bank. Lily seems to be losing a little (she is a chubster) and abbie is gaining. Neiko never changes. He has a great metabolism too.

As far as transitioning, if i dont go slow, lily gets the runs. Abbie and neiko aren't as sensitive to quick food changes

I'd like to hear how your crew does on Canidae. I think I'll try L&R Canidae  next. The older Piper gets, the less tolerant she is of foods it seems. She can't handle any of the grain frees, and even Cal Nat doesn't agree with her. A friend of mine feeds canidae and her dog does great on it.

I know a lot of thought goes into selecting a food to use. I have used several of the premium foods with good results, and I like to rotate foods. Last time shopping, I bought Purina Proplan chicken and rice blend just to check the difference. Piper likes it, has lost 4 lbs (a good loss) has excellent energy levels and looks good. I know it has corn in it, but its pretty far down the ingredient list. We are getting low in the bag, will see what looks good next time I shop.

I am fortunate-Piper likes variety and changes foods with no problems, has no allergies, and eats anything that holds still long enough to chew. How picky can an animal that snacks in the litter box actually be.

Our main kibble is Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream, which Dahlia loves.

In her evening meal, she always gets either a third of a can of food (which can be anything; we've fed TOTW, Blue Buffalo/Wilderness, Merrick, Evanger's, Instinct, and others) or some cooked meat mixed in.

    Due to some budgetary concerns...

I'm now feeding Kibble with a topper of the THK.

Lexi and Darby get 1 T thk plus water mixed with 1/4 cup kibble

Echo gets 2T THK plus water and 2/3 cup dry (tho I may need to knock her portion back more, she's put on an awful lot of weight on teh suggested amounts of kibble)

Currently trying California Natural Chicken/Pea grain free.  So far so good, some gas with it but they really really like this combination and it's much more budget family- PLUS I dont' have to worry about making toppers and worrying if it's balanced or not.

Seems to be a good compromise.

Cat is getting 1 can a day (any of the nicer brands on sale) and 1/4 cup evo dry per day.

Blue Buffalo chicken & brown rice; also the lamb formula; Blue Buffalo canned varieties, Wellness jerky treats (venison right now); occasional raw chicken; occasional "human"  food such as cottage cheese, roast, raw carrots, etc.

Both my girls have been eating Taste of the wild. They just finished a bag of the Pacific Stream and are now on the High Prarie. I've also been using Ziwipeak Venision as a topper. I add nupro and salmon oil to one meal a day.

I just switched Gibson to Canidea Beef and Fish.  Working good.....he is loving it and his stools are great.  However as far as him living it...must admit he would even love the bag it comes in!  LOL!
