To explain a little bit (just so you know it for future if nothing else) -- think of the intestinal tract more as a 'diagram' or picture. **somewhere** there is a blockage. Maybe it's close to the stomach, maybe it's closer to the rectum -- maybe its in the middle!
So ... in this case there was at least liquid getting thru. that's honestly really good.
But when they are obstructed --- on one hand they can only poop out what is *beyond* the blockage.
On the other ... they can eat and have stuff exit the stomach ONLY until the intestinal tract fills up between the blockage and the stomach. Once the blocked material is backed up as far as the stomach nothing else can *exit* the stomach! Then stuff just sits in the stomach and stomach acid keeps pouring in to try to digest it but it can't get out of the stomach cos there is no room in the intestine.
THEN they throw up. And will typially throw up everything they eat.
That's why the vet was comfortable with this -- because if he's still eating then stuff is still leaving the stomach. And sometimes a "blockage" (particularly a partial blockage where liquid is getting thru) will sort of "move along" the intestine and eventually come out the other end.
RAH for "soft" poop!! That's GREAT news!! That's more than just "liquid" getting thru.
I am *SO* glad Amanda posted -- she really knows her stuff (and she has dogs of all ages and has a LOT of experience).
