What goes with your dog's food?

Im full of questions I know. But my friend was telling me all the stuff she added to her pup's food and I was wondering what others added to their dog's food. I didnt add anything but a sardine or an egg yolk to Luger's food when he was with me. But maybe I should have?

So anyways what goes with your dog's food? And why?

I add 1 tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar and a salmon oil pill to Caleb's breakfast.  He also gets a can of sardines on Wednesdays ("fish day";), and a raw egg on Saturdays ("egg day";).  He's also temporarily getting 3 benadryll at breakfast and 3 more at dinner time.

Tootsie, gets salmon oil and vitamin e in her am meal, daily. On Fridays she gets two sardines.

Adding anything to your dog's food is your personal preference.

Maze gets kibble topped with home cooked. What type depends on what I have in the fridge, or what we're eating for dinner. Right now she's getting pork gravy, rice and cooked carrots with her kibble.  As for why, she gets crappy kibble because right now that's all I can afford right.

Sandy gets raw so nothing added to her food.

Simba's getting plain yougurt in his food to keep the gas down until he gets a better food.

Once in a blue moon they get an egg on top, but that isn't often.  They do get raw several times a week too.

Breakfast is our only regular kibble meal for the dogs (they get HK Preference or Keen for dinner) and they always get a TBSP of plain yogurt and a fish oil cap.

Apollo- 3c of Orijen, + 2 scoops of Joint Strong, 1 multi vitamin, and 3 probiotics and enzymes tablets, and some left overs (meat, veggies, etc) or plain yogurt or a raw egg.

Molson- 1 1/2c Canidae Grain Free Salmon, + some left overs or plain yogurt or a raw egg.

Patty- 1c Grandma Lucy's, + 1 multi vitamin (just started that today) and left overs or plain yogurt or a raw egg.

Also, all 3 dogs get something raw (a marrow bone, turkey neck, chicken back, etc) 3+/week.

Today the dogs got something special in their food...my Mom dropped off some home made chicken soup with wild rice and lots of veggies so I mixed some of that in with their food- they *LOVED* it! Tonight my DH is out fishing so hopefully he catches a striper (or 2) and the pups will have some extra fresh fish in tomorrows meal.

Nothing but fish oil and vit e, with any sort of consistency. They get yogurt, meat and veggies, etc etc sometimes, if I have it for them. Never fish, because Bean won't eat it. No real reason for the "stuff" except that it tastes good, and I think that fresh foods are beneficial.

I rotate which meats I cook for her every week, usually turkey breast, pork chops or beef.   And, she also gets fish pretty often, tilapia filets and recently striper because a good friend has been catching them and giving them to her.  On occasion she will get some tuna(that's usually if I run out of other stuff and get desperate)  She gets low fat cheese and baby food.  Also, she really likes those Gerber meat sticks.  Yogurt sometimes too.

I also give her a multi vitamin and 1/4 teaspoon Metamucil for an issue she has.

Why. . .? Hmmmm. . .um. . .I created a monster??  AND, she has to eat a prescription diet for health issues and I like to spruce it up as much as she can tolerate.  I never give her just dog food, I always add something.

She eats three small meals a day and gets cookies and biscuit type treats on occasion-usually weekends or if she does something VERY good.  And raw beef marrow bones, she gets those weekly as long as I can find them in an appropriate size for her.

    Here too, Glenda.

I was doing fish oil/vit e, but I ran out months ago - and just haven't gotten more.

Sometimes we do canned mixed in, and sometimes eggs or yogurt. I've been super busy, and my dogs are expected to eat whatever I put in front of them (which they do - Blue Buffalo dry)

They DO get veggies and pieces of meat, and other things, throughout the day - typically whatever the rest of the family is eating

    Nothing.

    My standard answer: It Depends.

I haven't fed kibble now for months but when I did I did mostly cooked toppers of meat/veg combo and yogurt.

Now I feed either Honest Kitchen topped with a some raw meat or yogurt. Sometimes plain. as the morning meal.  OR I make my own meat/veg/egg mix and then I add fish oil and vit. E. Thinking about doing just HK for the morning meal plus occassional toppers though, frige space is bare minimum!

Evening meals have been RMBs with a bran/kelp/herb mixture sprinkled on it.  Dogs are looking fantastic on these combos!

I looked up this Honest Kitchen food. Is it a mush? Looks like when you add water it would be a mush.

And where do you guys get your RMBS?

I was looking for a way to add more calcium to my dogs meals and was thinking about adding bones until I read this article and found that unless the bone is from organically grown animal there can be a toxic load to the bone. I think I will just add the egg shell and be safe. http://www.drpitcairn.com/nutrition/nutrition_index.html
