So many dog food brands... suggestions (aDork)

Of course price does not = good food.

It's the ingredients that make it better. I prefer to KNOW what my dogs are eating, rather than just feed them a long list of by products and fillers.

A vet is not a nutritionist. You wouldn't go to your eye doctor and ask if your diet is a healthy one, and expect a thorough answer based on years of research and expertise in the field

I looked at some of the other varieties of Blue Buffalo today and they do have some that are lower protein -- 22% vs. 34%. I'm not sure if that is the issue, but I think I'm going to try a different variety and see if that produces some changes. I haven't seen him in 2 1/2 months, so maybe what I was seeing wasn't related to his food. I'm also having to consider where I'll be living and how much money I may have. I'm hoping for the best outcome all around, which will allow me to spend a few months really searching out, examining his food options and seeing first hand the effects of his food before changing again.

I've had the same issue since I got my dogs. Of course the most important thing is to not switch around their food too often because dogs have sensitive stomachs.

I've spoken to my vet about it and of course they recommended the expensive brands they sell there. I avoid any food made in China - too many pet food recals. I also avoid food if I've heard the company experiments on animals.

I go to a local groomer/pet food store that stocks a wide range of natural pet foods. I've put my cats on a more natural diet as well. They tend to be hypo-allergenic, better quality ingredients, less fillers.
