    FWIW.....

I am currently eating oatmeal....and the dog had to have his share. I can see he hates it and I can see him diminishing as we speak.

    Yeah, right.

Kord cannot do Flaxseed, and just about every high end food has it. He does well on it so it's what im going with.

Your dog, your choice, but there are premiums without flaxseed.  Naturapet's Innova Evo Turkey & Chicken: Turkey, chicken, turkey meal, chicken meal, potatoes, herring meal, chicken fat, natural flavors, egg, apples, tomatoes, potassium chloride, carrots, vitamins, cottage cheese, minerals, alfalfa sprouts, dried chicory root, ascorbic acid, direct-fed microbials.

Yes it is, and for now it is what works for him. I have to avoid corn, and flaxseed, we tried Canidae but it made him worse, much much worse. TOTW was good but he still does the best on this.

I will be very blunt. I have no time for anyone that touts the perfection of one dog food over another, and then grinds into others because they feed something else and what your doing is considered inferior.

I have a perfect weight, balanced, energetic, in the prime of his life dog, who just happens to have allergies. We know he has low thyroid levels. To keep him off drugs as long possible we use what works. If that disturbs people, to bad.

While I agree with you to that extent, I do think that you must also have an open mind, and not pay attention to a messenger who delivers their message in an insulting way.  Just pay attention to the meat of the message, and make your decision from there.  **content removed by moderator**

moderator speaking - please let's keep it polite, 24Pawsnclaws that was not an acceptable tone.

Sometimes an individual dog needs a formula that others believe to be less than ideal.  i am sure that the owner is doing the best that they can for THEIR dog. In this case I know this person is not ignorant and unwilling to have considered options. This is what they need to do for now.

Food is always a hot topic, discuss politely and respectfully. Let's stay on topic, thanks.

My dog is NOT hypothyroid. **content removed by moderator** he has low/borderline numbers.**content removed by moderator**

For anyone who cares, my dog is under a vets care. My dog has been on keto, pred, and various antibiotics for over a year, and has had food changes, how dare my vet suggest we try and give his poor body a break. **content removed by moderator**

If your dog's constellation of symptoms supposedly regarding foods includes skin problems, you may just be seeing the effects of hypothyroidism, which can lead to skin infections and coat problems.

he has been tested, and is not.

What I, and my vet do, which is in my dogs best interest, is not going to be governed by the opinion(s) of some faceless person **content removed by moderator**.

For what it is worth, I did go to some people here on the board with EXPERIENCE.....not opinions that reflect their own judgments.

Boy, I sure wish I had a whistle and could send folks to their corners......

Innova can be VERY difficult to find.

I would ASSUME, knowing Dawn, that she is working carefully in conjunction with her vet regarding the thyroid issues.

I'm wondering why this thread has slipped into attacking one another?

I had gotten email earlier in the week from Blue about their new formulas.  I'm kind of excited that they'll be doing large breed in fish, but I was hoping that their simple formula's wouldn't include flaxseed since I know there are dogs here that have issues with flaxseed.  Nope, sadly both formulas include flaxseed.  Sigh.

    • Gold Top Dog

I saw that too...kinda strange since it seems many dogs have issues with flaxseed.

Have you tried their duck? Casey was not all that impressed when we did... although - that may not be a good back for your home! Stick out tongue

    • Gold Top Dog

Not yet.  I did see that they have a duck formula now, but that would mean going to Petsmart to buy it and that's even further than the Tractor Supply is.  About the only time I go their is when I need Wilderness for the cats and am just about convinced that I want to put all the dogs on Wilderness as well.

    • Gold Top Dog

Amen!  Out of my 6 pets, only 3 don't have allergies or some major health issue-or both (and one is a betta, so he hardly counts).  I will feed whatever I can afford that will keep them healthy and feeling good, even if the ingredient list isn't impressive....

I feel sorry for anyone who would feel the need to tell someone who is obviously working to do their best for their dog that they are essentially killing it.  It's really sad.  Are you a vet?  Are you an actual canine nutritionist (not someone whose read stuff on the internet a lot, a professional)?  Have you studied this dog's medical records?  Seen his actual condition?  If the answers to these questions is "no," then you have no right to say something so hateful and ignorant to another poster.
