    Chicken soup puppy lover's soul

Hi everyone, are any of you feeding your dog chicken soup for the puppy lover's soul? What is your experience/reviews of this food? Would love to hear your feedback! Thanks.

I've never fed the puppy, although my dogs did well on the adult and senior formulas.  They really liked them.  I'm feeding Blue Buffalo now and have been toying with going back to chicken soup because it is cheaper and right now cheaper is better for me.

I used to feed Chicken Soup but found it to be a poor substitute for Innova.  The dogs did fairly well on it, but I had to feed a good deal more.  Also, it is made by Diamond, which is a company that I no longer trust.

That's right...I forgot Diamond made it...

Linda Arndt which is known as The Great Dane Lady and is a nutritionist...had a list of foods that she suggested on her website....she used quality of food, and other things like honesty of the company that made it and such as her criteria for picking those foods. Chicken Soup was always on that list, but I haven't gone there lately to see if it still is there...there are so many more foods on the market now..and the last time I was there she was only "into" small food companies that were family owned.

I fed CSFTDLS (yikes, long name!) to my dogs about 6 years ago for a period of 5 months or so. They did fine on it, I was adding toppers of meat and yogurt as well.

I am sure the formula's been changed since then but they did well on it.

This food was recommened to me by a friend when Brownie(beagle) was a puppy and when Cuddles(american cocker spaniel) was young I fed it to her too. It comes in kibble and canned, but I always fed the kibble with some water poured over the top. The nutrition level is much higher than a lot of dog foods and you dont have to feed a huge amount. When I had my old dogs Angel, Buffy, and Little Mac(american cocker spaniels) I fed them Eukanuba. When I had Possum(chihuahua) I fed her Purina Healthy Morsels. This food is much better than both of those. Overall, I like and give it a ten out of ten. Its a great food!

Compared to Euk or Purina, yeah its a good food.  When compared to thing like Blue, Innova, Solid Gold, etc, it's way down there on the list in my opinion.

Thanks! We have had our pup on the Chicken Soup for awhile now and she really seems to like it. We will be transitioning her onto the adult formula shortly since she is getting a little to old for puppy food.

My boys have been on the adult formula for a while.   I was giving the the Adult formula but have changed to the Large breed adult.  They local place I get it started ordering the 20lb large breed bag for me cause it is easier to handle than the 40 lb bag.  I have recently added Taste of Wild Salmon for a little variety.  I started it slowly but they like it too.

Innova had a recall in the 90s for the same thing that Diamond did a few years ago.

Interesting, since they use NO corn in Innova.  Hmmmmm.

It is not about the recall as much as how the company handles it and owns up to their screw ups.

Aflatoxins are caused by moldy grain, it doesn't have anything to do with corn.

Often aflatoxins are a sign that grain being used is the best quality and/or has been poorly kept (and this is likely the case with most any dog foods, except ones which really use only 100% human grade ingredients).

I am confident in Chicken Soup because it goes through Diamond's 151 Checks process. We haven't had any problems with the food and the 151 checks gives me an extra added confidence that the food we are feeding our pup is good for her.
