Picky dogs stink! (jennie_c_d)

Do you think she'll be picky forever?

Jennie, probably not.  Willow was picky for years!  I had her to more than one vet for not eating. And, every time they'd tell me she was fine it was "behavioral".

She was finally treated for her issues correctly and she hasn't missed a meal since.  I truly believe she wasn't feeling right or "off".   I regret thinking she was "picky".

So, definately do the teeth and go from there.  I'll bet you will see a difference in her after that is done.

Ann, she's in heat. She's in great condition, but she's a sighthound, and the surgery is risky to begin with. I'm waiting til she's finished with her season, to have her spayed, and will do her teeth at the same time.

I'm hoping you guys are all right, because this annoys me, endlessly. It's just one of those things that nags at my brain. She's being soooo good. She's having to be separated from Emma, for now, because she's mounting, and Emma's back can't take it. She's got ex pens in all the rooms, and is doing GREAT with it! She is eating her meals, pretty well, as long as I make them special enough, and not losing weight, at all, so I'm not going to worry too much.

I totally feel your pain. It upset me constantly when Rascal wasn't eating well. I felt like such a failure - I mean, dogs are notorious for being food-obsessed, right? What kind of a bad dog owner can't even get their dog to eat?!

Turns out Rascal just needed some time. Well, a switch from the food he was on when I got him helped, too. (He was originally eating Science Diet mixed with Newman's Own - blech.)

Once he was feeling better emotionally and physically, his appetite came back, and most of the pickiness just went away :)

He still will occasionally turn his nose up at some kibbles (he likes it when I rotate kibbles every month or two), but 99% of the time he cleans his plate.

Hold strong - I'm sure things will get better!

This morning, she picked out the meat topper, and left the kibble mush, so I stuck Ena in her crate, to finish it in front of her. Hopefully, that will help a little. Otherwise, I'm going to have a FAT Crested!

I would try baby food, especially the meat ones. Its super smooth and I think dogs go for that better than canned food. Jetta won't touch ANY canned dog food (she doesn't like the smell I guess? I don't either!) but she gobbles up jarred baby food. You can mix the meat, veggie, and grain baby food jars for variety and to make sure she is getting good nutrition until her teeth feel better.
