    Coat care

I need something to strengthen Maze's coat. I've noticed a couple bald spots from where Sandy grabs on to her neck while they're playing.

Right now she's getting Nutro Max for the active dog. I know not the greatest but I'm working a budget and she seems to be doing really well on it. So any suggestions on what I can add to her meals so I don't end up with a bald dog? Lol

Not sure about strengthing the coat, but you might eventually get Sandy to stop grabbing Maze's neck by spraying some Bitter Apple on it.  The worked great for us when we lived at camp and the camp director's Lab was constantly grabbing and hanging from Mick's neck.

Thank you Micksmom! I never thought about this.

Off to spray Lillie and Fynn then let Joker go play with them for the first time in a few months..Devil

Yeah, making her stop grabbing the coat is going to be your best bet.

She's not doing all the time and it's not even that hard.  It's weird but I'll try and watch closer to see if I can pin point when she's grabbing at her coat cuz I don't want them to stop playing.

I've had this problem with Border Collie puppies doing this to their own tails! Border Collies being the compulsive personalities that they are, it only takes a couple of play sessions for them to work up thee thusiasm over the new game of grabbing at their own tails, and significantly denude the tail. :P I've gotten great results from using Cut Heal ointment. It works both to hasten hair regrowth by conditioning the skin, and also discourage the mouthing because it is really gross tasting. ;)

     Thanks Becca!

I've just started stuffing a toy in Sandy's mouth everytime she gets grabby at Maze's coat. So far so good. Lol

I think I've had a problem recently with what I could surmise was Shadow's fur and hide getting dry. Licking and scratching. The only thing that has changed in his life was the food. When my finances got better and I found that Nutro was making the Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal and Rice, again (the formula I fed him until they had quit making it), I bought some and then that problem started. I think that, in spite of it being the same name as the old formula, it may not really be the old formula. They may have made some ingredient substitutions that changes how he gets the oils and linoleic acid he needs. No doubt, due to following the "bottom line" of Mars Food Co. I don't say that as a criticism or condemnation, just as a likely fact of life in the world of big business. So, I've been adding Missing Link, which has helped some, in spite of it being a dry powder.

That bag of food is almost gone and I will like choose a different brand or formula. He did well on it before but I think that was due to the percentage of lamb meal then, which is high in linoleic acid and the way the supps were mixed in before, as well as the quality and source of ingredients, including supps. I totally feel for you and understand the quandry. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, didn't like the t-shirt, and want to give it back.

I also understand budgetary concerns as well or better than most around here. I wen't below flat broke this year. I mean I have about 200 dollars in overdrafts and penalties on my bank account. Having changed jobs, I'm coming up on a lean two weeks. But at least the new job pays better (salary) once the full checks start coming in.
