Lexi at a whole Knuckle bone!

Lexi at a whole Knuckle bone!

Lexi is my 22lb bichon girl (oversize).  I gave the dogs rmb's today to chew on, and before I knew it, Lexi had noshed down a knuckle bone the size of a baseball.  She is such an aggressive chewer!

I don't think I'll feed her tonight and make sure bowels are moving along.

This type of thing makes me not want to do rmb's, because there isn't one she CAN'T chew up. No rib bones, no leg bones, now knuckle bones too.  May have to stick wtih chicken wings and kongs.

    SHould I worry?

Bevo eats pretty much every bone that I give him.  Short of very hard, chalky stools, he's had no problems.  Generally, I feed him an organ meal, & encourage him to drink more to try to help "soften" things up a bit.

I'd just watch her to make sure that constipation doesn't become an issue.

Emma was similar, when she was younger. Lately, she's not interested enough to chew much up. Bully sticks, tracheas, and Kongs are where we stay.

Most healthy dogs, if they've crunched off pieces small enough to go down the hatch, will not have any trouble the rest of the way. The stomach is designed to hold the bone until disolved, which takes an amazingly short time even for hard bones. Accidents happen of course, but I've also heard of dogs getting impactions from rawhides and poisoned by edible treats, so I personally prefer the dangers the dogs are adapted to handle by nature. :)

I was kindof thinking along the same lines, Brookcove.

She seems to be doing fine. POoped on the carpet again (grr!! so dang sneaky!) so things are moving along I suppose...
