Puppy food

Blue does have a large breed puppy.  It's in the light orange bag and comes in 15 or 30 lb bags.  But, if you are looking at Tractor Supply, they don't carry the lg breed puppy, just Adult, Fish and Lg breed adult.

You could always check out the Blue website and do a comparison and probably just feed the adult lg breed but more than you would an adult dog of that size.  There you can makes comparisons between the amounts on both formulas.

 TOTW is all life stages. I use TOTW with my guys and also with pups.

Wow, sio you can feed regular food to a puppy, just adjust amounts? ANd this is ok even when you are trying to keep large breeds from growth spurts?

I just adjust the amount of feed when I see it needs adjusting. What kind of large breed dog are you getting?

I use the wetlands and high praire formulas with my guys. The protien in it is 32%. So maybe with a pup you can use the pacific stream formula which has 25% protien. I know Fynn's breeder told me she gives her pups food that is 23-25% protein until their a year old.

Naturapet makes Healthwise chicken/rice puppy food that IS appropriate for ALL puppy's, large or small.

I would NOT feed a Rotweiller a food that contains more then 1.9 - 2% calcium content.

It's NOT the protein level you have to watch out for, it's the amount of calcium in the food; too much calcium on a large breed pup and they grow too fast.

Just because it says All life stages does NOT mean it has the lower correct calcium amount needed for a large breed puppy. Many of your grain-free foods, including TOTW have higher calcium amounts.

Check into Innova Large Breed puppy food (Naturapet), as well as Orijen, Healthwise puppy, Blue Buffalo might be appropriate too.

 You can get Orijen online (as well as several other nice brands). Their puppy food is all-breed - the calcium levels are appropriate for large breed dogs. I've got my puppy on it and I'm actually liking the results better than the last couple of pups I raised (same breed) on home prepared/raw. :-/

The lower calcium of this food means I can safely give Sam the puppy daily raw meaty bones to chew, as well as supplementing his food with green tripe, which has a bit of calcium in it too. He's not a large breed, but he's growing REALLY fast and his line has the potential for elbow dysplasia, so I'm doing everything I can to stack the deck in his favor.

I think I need to do a little studying up on food too before I get the puppy. Thanks for the info. I had no idea.
