Quickly! - Food similar to Blue Buffalo?

I am going to Petsmart after work and need to get something similar to Blue Buffalo. Lex has been on it for about two months, but something is bothering his stomach. I want to try something close to it. The only restriction he has is chicken. I dont have time to research it, I have to work lol =)

    Thanks for your help!!

Nothing comparable that you'll find at PetsMart.  How about trying a different protein source?

Anything is fine except chicken, he is allergic.

Which leaves Lamb or Fish.  The canned foods are awesome too.  Turkey, beef, vension, salmon, lamb, and of course Chicken and the widlerness canned, but that's chicken and turkey so won't work.

I'm assuming you are serving the Blue Lamb and Rice formula, since Lex cannot have chicken---have you tried the BB Fish formula?

If you want to get away from BB altogether and must shop at Petsmart, I would go with with Avoderm Lamb and Rice ---nice food, probably considerably less kcals per cup than BB, so you will likely have to feed more.

I would probably feed By Nature Pork & Sweet Potato.

Isn't Blue Buffalo a grain-free food?  Do you have a feed store near you, you can find Taste of the Wild which has a Salmon as well as Venison protein source aside from Chicken.  My dogs are doing extremely well on that.

Wow, I've never looked at BB's ingredients. There's five different carb sources in some of the formulas! As far as chicken sensitivity, both the non-chicken formulas list "natural chicken flavor" in their ingredients. That might not be a problem for dogs that aren't terribly sensitive but it wouldhave been enough to set off Ben, who had a true allergy.

Nature's Recipe is good - it looks like they have an "easy to digest" line with only a couple of grains and one protein source. The fat is chicken fat but that's actually better for stomach and skin problems as long as there's not a true severe chicken allergy. Fat doesn't contain enough protein to trigger most dogs.

I like Avoderm for dogs having tummy and skin issues unrelated to grain. Cord did nicely on it - they just don't have a formula with enough "oomph" to support his energy needs.

And, if you are desperate, that doggone Pro Plan Sensitive Skin really does work magic. The problem with using it is that if it works you won't be sure what triggered your dog in the first place as there are a couple of nameless ingredients like "animal fat" - is it pork? beef? chicken? turkey? and "animal digest."

Blue does have a nearly grain free, in Wilderness, but, that's chicken and turkey, so that wouldn't work in this case.

I personally don't like Avoderm or Taste of the Wild.

I stopped by Petsmart and went ahead and grabbed the Blue buffalo lamb and rice. I also picked up some natures recipe wet food. The diarrhea has just been recently, and he likes it so much I think we will give it another shot. Maybe he got into something or was accidently given one of the other dogs cookies or something. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I hope he gets over the diarrhea soon; if he's been on BB for 2 months and the diarrhea started recently, the food's probably not causing it. You may want to take a stool sample to the vet. Lex is a real cutie!!!

Thanks =) I have been really watching his stool lately and it has been solid since I first posted. he must have just got into something that upset his stomach.
