Well my dogs approve of lamb ribs..

This is the first raw meal I've ever fed that included any bone (though I have given marrow bones as chews) but I decided I needed to bite the bullet. All things considered Ben has eaten crazier things, and Lumos has been eating lamb ribs at his breeder's for weeks.

Both boys LOVED them, and Lumos especially really took a while to chew which is great, I'm all about appropriate chewing with a puppy in the house LOL.

Wish me luck that there are no ill effects please!

Lamb ribs, yay! Crossing all appendages. I'm a big believer in as many bones as possible for puppers - I think they get so much important exercise of their upper body, head and jaw muscles, and their wee brains too! I've never had a puppy that chewed inappropriately since I started feeding raw.

Other than a fascination with my shoelaces Lumos is really good about only chewing on his toys, but he definitely needs outlets for the urge. His mother developed a real taste for raw lamb while she was pregnant and she seems to have passed that on to Lumos. Ben just eats anything anyway. ;) Having never witnessed for myself dogs eating raw meat/bones like that I must say I was pretty amazed, that HAS to be good for muscle development.

I bought a big package of them and still have 2 left over, so the boys will each get one for a snack sometime tomorrow.

I've found ribs to be a huge benefit with a puppy here as well. Grimm is a small fry, but he can stay busy for up to an hour with a rib bone Smile And aside from a run in with a usb cable, we've not had any inappropriate chewing here either

And just adding that Lumos is adorable!

He sure is!!! Lamb ribs are very expensive here so I give Jessie beef ribs. Do you get them at a coop?

Penny has always been quite big on lamb ribs (it gets called brisket or breast here), but they kind of went off it for a while. Possibly because I bought 10kg of it. Smile

But the problem with the stuff we were getting is that it had a layer of fat on it that accounted for most of the volume. The dogs don't want that all the time. We have recently found a place that does the same cuts but strips the fat off, so it's just meat and bone. It's much smaller, but the dogs are more enthusiastic about it. We gave them some frozen ones yesterday. The noise was horrendous.

I got mine at a butcher, they aren't expensive here really, I don't think they're a popular cut for humans.

There were no ill-effects from last week so they got some more for dinner today. Lumos especially really LOVES lamb, it almost makes me wonder about genetic memory. Traditionally Maremmas would have been fed scraps of lamb and mutton, whatever the shepherd could give - maybe they know they're supposed to like lamb, all the Maremmas I know do. I've wondered about that before because Ben loves fish more than anything else.

Anyway, we have happy full dogs here, now I just need to stop being such a wimp about other kinds of raw.

Don't worry one day you will find yourself confused why people are looking at your weirdly as you sling a pig's leg in your dog's direction LOL. I used to be so squeamish and I cannot believe the stuff I touch now.

there was a sale on lamb ribs today (usually the boys get beef). Everyone approved heartily! Aesop, however, at his in about five minutes. I'm not even sure how much he chewed. That's really unusual for him (he hates to chew and doesn't eat big pieces of anything). Hopefully his stomach digests the bone well if he didn't chew thoroughly Huh?

This is the first bone meal in a long while that the elf has been able to enjoy along with the boys. Because of her jaw, I don't let her chew on hard bones. So she's usually left to be sad while everyone enjoys bones, though we do cut off quite a bit of the raw meat for her to enjoy as a snack. The lamb ribs are small enough that she can chew without my worrying about her jaw. She's so happy Smile
