Instead of freezing fresh meat in containers ......

I've switched to using freezer bags.     Those containers were taking up way to much room in the freezer.    Now when I have an excess of meat for Prancer that needs to be frozen I chunk it up, lay it on a wax paper lined cookie sheet, freeze it and then transfer to a freezer bag.   Takes up alot less room and I can pick and choice / mix and match what meats I'm going to give her on any given day.   I also have freezer bags with individually frozen chicken hearts, beef heart slices, turkey meatballs, and chicken gizzards (I call the gizzards 'doggie chewing gum' - my vet recommended them to keep teeth clean - seems to be working, they're certainly not worse).

My next batch of veggie mush will get bagged instead of containered also - I'm going to start freezing it in ice cube trays and transferring it to bags.

I don't know why I didn't think of going totally bagged sooner - its alot easier to fit them in since they can conform to whatever weird shaped spot I have available in the freezer.      Only took me 2 years to figure it out LOL

Are you feeding Prancer raw?? Do you feed her whole chicken bones...just curious, I have a small chihuahua whom I'm a bit leary of feeding chicken wings too....he's a power chewer.

The only thing I give her raw are the chicken hearts (2 or 3 a week).   Everything else is boiled - she has issues with too much fat and may be prone to pancreatitis.     I don't give her any bones at all so I can't help you there.     She gets the gizzards (boiled) for her teeth;  vet says her teeth look good.  She had tartar when we adopted her at 6 months old so I figured she'd have problem teeth but the tartar hasn't gotten very much worse - and I don't brush them (bad mommy LOL).

     Another trick for small dogs:

Spray ice cube trays with healthy cooking spray (olive or canola).  Pack them with your stuff to freeze, then pop it out when it's ready and bag up).  If you stack several in the freezer (a good idea), put waxed paper between the layers.

I have a 15 pound fiest/BC mix I'm trying to get some weight on and she's eating wee little "satin ball" type servings, three times a day (a healthier version I now use).
