    We have a Down! =D

Sandy is downing! WHOOT! She's being doing it 9 times outta 10 in the house with just the hand signal. I haven't named it yet since I don't want to name an incomplete movement.

So when we went for our walk today, I grabbed a handful of treats and randomly called her back and asked her down. And she did! 3 times on the trail and once in the driveway!

*does a happy dance* Although she did try and weasel out of the down in the driveway. Lol. She just went in to a "bow" with her butt in the air. Sorry Sandy but that doesn't count!

Sandy, you are so smart!  Mom, I guess you get some of the credit, too! LOL   I think JRT's are incredibly smart dogs and most are sponges when it comes to learning.

Sandy is a thinker. If I show her what I want then let her walk away and think about it for a few minutes, she'll bounce right back, doing what I ask.

Example: She was TERRIFIED of the tunnel. But with some treats and encouragement, she went thru thou she didn't like it. After waiting 5 minutes, we brought her back and she FLEW thru the tunnel. Now I can't get her out of the bloody thing. Lol

     Hooray!

I decided the "bow" was cute, so I taught it. Not the best idea. "Bow" and "down" sound a lot alike, to a dog.

I have a friend who taught her female dog to "curtsey" and her male dog to "be a gentleman".  You don't have to call it "bow". Wink

That's cute! I need to change her cue, but right now I'm not encouraging any "bows". Her first rally trial is in March!!! I would like for her to bow to the judge, when she gets her ribbon, but we'll get the down a liiiittle more solid, first.  Maybe in a couple of weeks I can rename her bow.

Sandy's been "bowing" at me every time I ask her to down. Lol. I'm ignoring the bow right now since I don't want to mess up the down. I think in a couple weeks I'll start marking the bow.

    Good luck Ena!
