Taste of the Wild....

    Taste of the Wild....

Our local TSC started carrying Taste of the Wild, which is weird because the only other food they have like that is Blue Buffulo.

We are going to try it for Sally.

What do you guys think of this kibble??

My dogs have had great results with it. I use the wetlands formula (something like that) and all of the dogs look great.  It was the one food I was able to find that got some much needed weight back onto Legend, simply because he consistently ate it all. Jules' Yorkie eye goobs, which I just took as a breed thing, went away after going onto TOTW.

Aesop is the only one who eats half and half..TOTW mixed with WolfCub, simply because he gets mushy poops when on all grain free (no matter which brand). Yet, he loves the taste of TOTW, so likes it mixed half and half. He'll refuse to eat if it's not mixed in Confused.  The half and half mix works just fine for him and his senstive digestive tract.

Obviously all dogs do differently on foods, but I'm pleased with the results Smile

just curious, is taste of the wild for all life stages? is it appropriate to feed to my 8(almost 9) month old puppy?

According to their website, yes it is ALS.

However, this food is 370 kcals per cup as opposed to Blues 505 per cup in many of the formulas.  Also, for a grain free, the protein levels are pretty low.  32% vs Blue lg breed at 26%, or Blue Wilderness, which has a bit of oatmeal at 42%.  The price is only a couple bucks below Blue, but the kcals don't justify a savings.

    I looked at this one.....hard.

See, I don't like the high protein grain frees.  In the 30's is where I prefer to see the protien levels.

My boys have been through about 6 or 7 bags of the pacific stream. No complaints here!

I fed TOTW when Ben was with us, as an emergency food, and was quite impressed.  The Pacific Stream was fine for Ben, who would react if even if there were a tiny amount of cross-contamination, so I felt confident in their Quality control.

All three dogs have eaten all three varieties of TOTW and done very well on it. I did notice that the Pacific Stream variety does have a bit of a fishy odor...but that is probably why they like it so much!

I recently started feeding the Pacific Stream version to Falon (who was previously on NB Potato and Duck).  So far we've gone through 3/4 of a 30lb bag and no problems---kibble is also very dense and consistent looking---different from what I used to think of NB.  It's actually one of the only foods that I was able to switch her cold turkey and she had NO stomach upset at all (she usually has diarrhea initially that clears up soon after).

Been a bit since I posted, so don't you all freak out now!

They finally started to carry this here as well over the summer, Kord's diet is restricted due to allergies and I was desperate for a food to rotate in and out.

We tried the buffalo version(?) first, he did ok, but I was still not happy so I went with the Pacific Stream and he is doing great. I rotate the Purina Pro plan salmon when I need to. My only issue now is I have only one source for each.

I have learned that my boy needs a fish based kibble, with mixed days of raw or home cooked to tone down the alleriges from food, he still suffers summer allergies, but there is only so much I can do about that. I am convinced that if we moved out of the valley here he would be just fine.

    Good luck!

I feed TOTW Fowl mixed 50/50 with Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken.  I was concerned with feeding it solo because of the protein levels...so I just decided to mix.  No complaints here except the prices seem to be going up consistently at the feed store where I buy.

the feed store here has kept the same prices so far, thankfully.  Petco has raised their prices a bit, though. I buy the WolfCub there, since the feed store doesn't consistently carry it, and it's gone up quite a bit. Thankfully I bought a 30 lb bag last time it was on sale, which will last us a few months. (a plus of having a light eater and a small fry as the puppies, I suppose)

I've been alternating TOTW Pacific Stream with Core Reduced Fat.    No issues here at all.  Prancer likes the TOTW Pacific Stream alot more than the Core Reduced Fat ... she LOVES fish - the stinkier the better LOL

My golden retriever mix loves the high prairie.  I did try the wet lands and she did not seem to like it as well.  Have not tied the fish formula.  She has never had ear problems and her coat has always felt like velvet, so no change .  She aso had little solid poops before.  I justdecided to go grain free, but ended up giving her a little grain on the side.
