    Skijoring

Has anyone ever heard of this before? I haven't until recently. I think it's cool sport for people and their dogs, something to do together. I love to cross country ski and when I go Apollo usually just trots along side (I'm not a trail blazer, lol).

    Anyone hear ever do it?

    Here's a link to a skijoring website.

    Mmm Hmm...

and it is SOOO much fun. In fact I teach it along with dog sledding through our touring kennel. Super fun and the dogs love it! I love to introduce people to this sport since it gets them out excercising with their dogs :)

I would like to try it since I've skiied all my life and I think Morrison would enjoy it too.

I just don't know where to go since any groomed track places wouldn't allow him etc etc

How do you get started in it? How do you get your dog into it?

Also, do you know of any competitions in the New England area? I'd love to go to one.

VanMorrison, where are you from? Maybe I could recommend a few places.

Black Labbie... you get started one of two ways. Buy gear, read up and try it out, being willing to be super patient with yourself and the dog :) Here's a like to a great gear site that I purchase from: http://www.nooksackracing.com/

or: take a lesson with an experienced dog and your dog so you and the dog can learn from an experienced ski-jorer. The dog benefits from running with an experienced dog because it actually learns from the dog, not you much easier. That's how we train all our puppies and rescue dogs to pull and follow commands, by placing them with a veteran sled dog. I don't think I can post my site on here for our lessons and tours in the White Mountains of NH since it is a for profit business, but feel free to contact me if interested

Some local ski-jor and dogsled races in the Northeast:
